Luc, is the car allowance just a perk or is it essential to the job? If so, would that rule you out?

Dont forget that you are the most important part of your negotiations. If the second job continues to be as attractive but the process could take a month or two, why not accept one and then bail if the other is eventually offered?

did your last firm put YOU first?

Pepe I emailed you back again did you get it..

Good advice....depends really on how badly you want either job. Are you taking first job cos nothing else is on offer, is there enough to stimulate you, prospects going forward. And you still get a car allowance if you can't drive.

You are a good prospect but only you can weigh up the risks of turning one down in case the other one comes up good.

Had an email Sammy, the one you sent after my, ahem, premature sending:D

    hi all.

Trying to buy a present for my brother - birthday is today  and can't think what to get him. He's 36, single, owns his own home, got all the gadgets, mad keen on football (travels to every Grimsby match), big cricket fan (travelled to Australia and South Africa before for it), drinks real ale. He is just about to walk a marathon for charity. He enjoys walking, he's not the smallest guy in the world but does like walking a couple of miles each day.

Bit stumped what to get him other than finding an online ale shop and sending some beers.

I've got the Self-Employed Enquiries being at East Kilbride. He was definitely a Scot and he was saying how bad the snow had been so I presume he was up there somewhere..........

Thanks Sammy & Pepe - jumping the gun a bit as I haven't got interview for second one yet but it would be faaaaaaaaaaaab. First one would pay the bills...

I kind of guessed that...otherwise you wouldn't be considering the other one. As Pepe has said put yourself first.

Just wanted to check Pepe -just waiting for the reply now...:D

May sound boring, but Bridgedale socks. The best for walking but not cheap. Thick ones and he'll need some thin ones as an underlayer. However, silk ones are the best for an inner layer.....and silk T-shirts (while not exactly cheap) are brilliant....or Bamboo Fibre ones if you can find them because they are naturally hypo-allergenic and anti-bac too............and cheap to post:D

You used to phone your own tax office in my day and speak to a trained human being (of sorts) who could look at your records and give you a straight answer. Now the Inland Revenue have call centres that are answered by call centre operators who know nothing about tax and are just trained to take your name, rank and serial number and tell you to put everything in writing.

BB - if he's a Grimsby fan then maybe he needs a few sessions of therapy?! The real ale sounds fab, how about a years membership of CAMRA? There are a few online ale shops that do a mixed case of beers that I'm sure he'd love.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.
