William? I've got a problem
My green light's always on and I'm forever in the Grab it or Shop till You Drop places. Sometimes I get lost and wander into discussion, eBay etc, just to keep me sane but ....
Will people think I'm greedy? Because I'm not, honest. I just like a bargain.
Btw, not sure if it works on the rating system here because I've never used it, but I know when I was on a forum that did use it, we'd manipulate it. Particularly if an 'unpopular' member of the forum started the topic (and usually awarded themselves 5* ratings  lol). But FWIW, I prefer the choice of being invisible or not.
Can't people have a poll on it or has the decision been made already?
Thanks0 -
Interesting post William.
I smiled at the '(thats a prob with online communication, 90% of the time (except for my friends of course), my tone is *completely* misinterpreted).' bit.
Personally if I was misinterpreted as much as that, it would have to make me wonder what I could do to help the situation. That's me digressing though.
I need to make clear the function I have an issue with.
It is NOT the fact that my name is showing at the bottom of the main forum page along with millions of others. I don't care if people see me as being online. The section at the bottom of the Index page doesn't put me up nor down.
It is the QUICK LINKS section I have a problem with. The 'Who's Online' feature which is accessed from this section lists where everyone is and what they are doing.
Is this really necessary? It's one thing for admin to see where peeps are but why does the world and it's brother have to see too?
I now understand your point about thread rating, obviously there is a big difference in meaning depending on whether you look at this as admin or site user.
As for the "stop s n i g g e r i n g" thing... not to be rude, but to be quite honest that didn't make me even smile, I don't find such things even remotely funny (yeah, I admit thats probably sad of me)
I apologise for the misunderstanding here....this comment wasn't even aimed at you, it was actually aimed at Traf and Troo who I thought would be having a laugh. I should have made this clear.Herman - MP for all!0 -
I don't mind the who's where feature at all (liar, you wanted people to think you were boardguiding all day not drinking in the arms:D), but I must admit it does make me feel uneasy, though there's no logical reason because who on earth is going to spend any time chasing users around and to what end? Actually maybe that's the point, that if anyone has any nasty feeling towards other people (and this has happened in the past), this feature could be used to subtley or otherwise get at people by chasing them round and posting after them or deriding their posts. Thinking as I'm writing, though I started off thinking it doesn't matter too much I now think it does matter. I don't agree with the reasoning behind switching it off because you want your movements private though - just visit as a guest, it's not too difficult to log in.
So I think.... disable the feature that shows where people are on the boards and keep the little green lights and lists of users online (if they can be seperated).Torgwen.....................

The forums I usually go on are quite used to it - since thats how they talk usually to... its just places like here, where I'm actually fairly new (I've only just started roaming out of the Techy forum)aliasojo wrote:I need to make clear the function I have an issue with.

Unfortunately for the moment yesHowever, that being said I will look into it, and recommend it be disabled (or commented out, if it requires my changing the scripts).

Indeed, then theres the developer and admin side too, since I see things fro m the development side primarily, then the admin side... then the user sidealiasojo wrote:As for the "stop s n i g g e r i n g" thing... not to be rude, but to be quite honest that didn't make me even smile, I don't find such things even remotely funny (yeah, I admit thats probably sad of me)

William, whether we agree or disagree on things, and whether or not things can be changed, I appreciate the fact that you are willing to at least take our points into consideration. Thank you.Herman - MP for all!0 -
I just thought of a horrible thing you could do.
You can get who's online to sort by location (eg. at time of writing I can see everyone in the tesco £10 voucher thread at the top of this page)
You could start a topic with a really embarrassing title and see what users go in0 -
[aliasojo] Heh, no problems... I like helping people (even if I don't always understand them hehe)
[sra555] hehehe... not me :P if it looks even remotely dodgy, I won't touch itThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
