Not a huge fan, TBH. I still favour the chicken and leek pie. With some of that lovely puff pastry on top. I've got just the right dish to put it in, too. All I need is some chicken. And leeks. And pastry. Oh, and some sauce. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

Noooo!! This is N.Ireland and things are a bit different! Our superdupermarkets close at 6.00 pm - I just made it.
I drooled over his cake anyway. Mr FantasticExample has inspired me to make a Banana Cake tonight - it's not as difficult as a Chocolate Yoghurt Cake though.
I'm interested in the chicken & leek pie too, that sounds good. I haven't made proper pastry for years and years - not since O levels in fact. It'll be good to get a reminder of how it's done.0 -
If we are doing chicken and leek pie, I would buy the puff pastry. I think most celebrity chefs admit to using bought puff pastry, so I don't think it would be any great defeat if you used bought.
If you were going for shortcrust however - then we'd expect to you to make it.
Go for a nice chicken and leek pie with a puff pastry lid - yum!

*cough, cough*.....could we have a veggie alternative too please?Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly!0 -
tigs78 wrote:Ooh, how exciting! Do you think they will expect us to make the pastry from scratch! :eek:mrbadexample wrote:I wouldn't have it any other way! Even when I did my chick pea curry, I started with dried chick peas, not tinned. If you're playing you'd better be ready to get stuck in! :rotfl:
Stuck in? I cooked proper rice for the first time today, none of that 2 minute Uncle Ben microwave stuff for me (anymore)! Pastry will be a breeze I'm sure.
I'll await the new thread, I'd like to be able to post photos on the day itself though - can you point me in the right direction pls...0 -

Aye, no bother. Leave the chicken out.
Actually, if you want a veggie option, I can recommend this or this (without the bacon). If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
