Oh crikey I wish I hadnt said anything now! The company told me specifically not to go around saying who they were as they did not want to be inundated with calls from MSers asking to be invited. All I will say is that it is 1 of the companies on the 1st page
sorry

Hi all I hope you can help (I apologise in advance for my confusing circumstances!)

I am currently employed part-time by my local council in my "proper" job. I also work for them as a fitness instructor - both of these jobs are paid together monthly with the relevant deductions made by the council for tax and NI.
I am also employed by the local University who pay me monthly with the relevant tax deduction but no NI deduction.
I work for another company as a freelance (self-employed) fitness instructor who do not make any deductions from my payment which is made by cheque approx. twice per year (for a 10 week session period). This work is not guaranteed.
I also carry out mystery shopping assignments for many different companies who do not make any deductions from payments.
When I started working for my freelance company and mystery shopping in January this year I registered as self employed. Today I've received a bill from HMRC for £31.20 NI contributions which I'm confused about as I already pay NI on my main earnings.
Basically do I need to pay this or not (am I covered by my main job contributions)?
Thanks in advance for any advice

Funnily enough, I have emailed them this evening asking for exactly the same thing. I was starting to think I was going mad!0 -
Blindman, saw your post earlier, but had the afternoon from hell and didn't get time to reply until now.
Spoke to Mark moment after you spoke to him (for the second time, I think..perhaps when he called you back???) and they've tried to pay me yesterday for some other work I did for them but their bank returned it, saying my account number is wrong (it isn't, and I've even checked with my bank that the IBAN & BIC is correct...this is the same IBAN & BIC that some other overseas MS Co's pay me with). He's looking into that for me, and did also mention that the flights money will be sent tomorrow (or it'll be sent to you, and HOPEFULLY sent to me!).
Thanks so the heads-up though...it might've been days before they realised there was a problem if it hadn't been for your PM & post, so thank you so much.0 -

Gine the tax office a ring. there really good. I have just registered and was given a NI exemption form. There is a limit to how much you can earn e.g. £6k before you have to pay additional NI.
I think it's something like £2 a week ish. if you haven't opted out i would recon the bill os backdated for this.
if you call them they are normally very helpfulI get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0 -
Buying a choccy bar at the petrol station is going to look odd for me as I do not drive so I am sure they will wonder why I am going in there to buy that!
It doesn't look odd. Passengers sometimes get out of cars to get a snack or something, or people just passing by or working close by will pop in for convenience to save going into the main store. Here I go again on my own....0 -

I usually get a bag of maltesers and say I forgot to get them when I did my main shopping. If they don't offer me a receipt I ask for it and say the sweets are for the old dear who lives next door and she always wants a receipt.:)0
