jintyb: you seem to have a knitting addiction now.:) Maybe everyone on here should take up knitting to avoid spending money - we could start an NSD knitters club thread:cool:... Glad you’re enjoying it, you’ve done well to start on small things, makes it seem more manageable. Hope you had a good day - well done on your grocery budget for the month - that’s brilliant! :T Strange the meals we can conjure up out of apparently nothing when we start thinking for a change... Well done for paying off the balance on your hols - sounds great!!:j

Hey Spoon, thanks for the knitting encouragment, still clicking away!
BTW "braw" means "great, lovely or brilliant" So your outfit for Glasgow is brilliant! I dont think you're a Soft Southerner as you manage to keep us lot in check!;)
Managed another NSD yesterday so Im up to 9! I just couldnt be bothered going out anywhere yesterday. I didnt need anything,so I thought it best to avoid shops as I'd just end up buying carp for the sake of it. No No No!:)
Might have another today - who knows?

    Hi everyone,

Thanks so much for all the good wishes. I was pretty stressed when I lost my old job, so it's such a relief to know that soon I'll have money coming in (besides benefits). I'm not in loads of debt, but I do have a couple of overdrafts, and it'll be nice to be able to see them get smaller!

I had my first day today, and didn't spend money! So am on NSD number 8 for this month!

Lollypop, congrats on the job, delighted for you!:T

Welll done to everyone, we seem to be really doing well this month, and the posts are great, really inspiring and encouraging.
    Have a great day everyone:)

BigMummaF, i'm bad at recipes, i just make things up as i go along, but the fudge cake is just a standard sponge, replacing 1oz of the flour with cocoa powder. The icing is melted dark chocolate mixed with butter & icing sugar, & then a little bit of warm milk to make it glossy & spreadable. Sorry theres no quantities but i tend to make it by sight.

I shall make us all a rhubarb & custard cake on Monday to cheer up the first day of the working week (& post the recipe too).

I booked coach tickets today to get to the airport for my jollies, totally forgot about transport to Glasgow, but i will get on it now... was thinking of booking the beer bus i once went to a party on, fab it was, free booze for hours   it only drove us to a nightclub in town, but i'm sure a cake for the driver will persuade him to take us a bit further!!! :rotfl: :rotfl:

Very pleased with myself that i caught the last bus home after work drinks last night instead of spending on a taxi (& i drank really slowly so i didn't have to buy many) & today my only spend was £11 on groceries & no rubbish (my treat was a jar of low fat peanut butter so i will finally use up some muffins that have been in the freezer forever!!), i even tried to spend that giftcard & couldn't find anything i thought i needed enough to buy it!!!!

Not so pleased that i didn't make huge inroads into the ivy, i felt really lazy & spent too much time sat outside with a cuppa & a book, oh well, just have to work harder tomorrow i guess!!!! :D

I would love your rhubarb and custard cake receipe please :j

Good morning everyone! I trust everyone is having a good weekend and enjoying the sunshine and clear blue sky - clear of both volcanic dust and noisy airplanes.

Anyhoo - yesterday brought me a surprise NSD, so I'm up to 9, and have just 10 more to get in 13 days - today will be a spend day as I need to do a big food shop, but with some discipline and careful money management, I should do it.

Courtesy of Martin Lewis and moneysavingexpert.com, my OH and I enjoyed free tickets to UK aware yesterday, and OH was very pleased as we picked up some great free mags (mags are her vice) which also had some green and money saving ideas in them. The 'Days Out Vouchers' moneysavingexpert.com webpage has some other fab ideas for cheap days out as well as free activites; I'd highly recommend it now that the weather is picking up and the urge to go outside is growing, but the thought of money is creating conflicting feelings!

Have a great weekend everyone and enjoy the good weather!

  • Hi peeps,

hope you're all enjoying the weather and the weekend :T.

I'm claiming an NSD as I won't be leaving the house today. Brings my grand total to 1 NSD for the month :o. Somebody give me a few slaps and bring me to my senses .

Have an excellent week ahead y'all

Did I see someone say they're getting the tickets for the coach? That poor driver will need a holiday after spending the evening with us, so don't forget to make a cake as a thank-you BDINI
It was me...I said I would investigate the bus that Scotland U-17s rugby team used...spacious, DVD player, loo and a driver used to raucous behaviour!! Should do us fine! :rotfl:

...have bought a mini diary so i can tick NSD's off, will try and have another today but OH's 40th tm and need to get a cake.
Couldn't you bake one for him, with ingredients you have at home already?

Declaring NSD no 9 today...I don't mind odd numbers, don't minf them at all, 7 and 21 are my favourites! I know it's early again, but it worked well for me yesterday! :D

Got lots of gardening done yesterday.Well, I supervised quite a bit, resting my back and so feel up to getting yet more done today. Have to get some baking done too, as well as food stock-take, so I can plan meals for the next two weeks and get my shopping list drawn up for tomorrow. This is definitely the key to getting my GC spending under control, as well as planning to get as much spending done on days that I have to spend.

I have my therapist tomorrow...hopefully the last one for a good while. So I will be bra hunting (still not done it since I lost 3 stone last year !) , as well as food shopping...I will be kn*****ed by the end of the day!

DS2 has an interview at a local college tomorrow morning, so I will take him there, up to school, then into the BIG Mr T as well as a smallish A**i...there is an Iceland nearby, so I might have a quick peek.

Feeling more confident these days at being able to shun offers that I don't really need...I feel I may be tempting fate over this, will report how I got on later in the week!

Have a great day everyone. :)

  • I know it's still early but declaring NSD 10 for today :j Feeling so pleased with myself that I've decided to up my target to 15 NSDs for this month.

Swimming this afternoon with the children so no chance to get to the shops at all. Have a busy work day planned for tomorrow plus football for DC1 tomorrow afternoon so again no chance to spend anything at all. :T
