Time I stopped reading this thread and started in join in......cannot put it off any longer!
Too daunted to try for a month but will declare a £100 grocery budget from today for 7 days.
6 adults and a baby in the house and I am trying to cook as much fresh as possible and cut RIGHT down on take-aways......our big downfall.
Remembering to include EVERYTHING is proving hard for me (Mrs Memory-Span-Of-A-Goldfish) so hoping joining in with this thread will keep me focused0 -
Am doing the challenge even though ive been forgetting to post it. My target is £175. Thanks.
EDIT - have just worked out what has been spent so far this month and its £83.71MFW 2016 No 68 £1300/£8500 No new toiletries Cook sth different0 -
Good morning everyone,
welcome to all the newbies.:)
I am well stocked up and don't think I will need much apart from milk and fruit and veg for the rest of the month.(famous last words)
Trying to adapt meal plan to use up some store cupboard ingredient which have been there a while.
Now when I visit my mother at the weekend we sit and make up a meal plan for her also. This lets her carers know what her menu is for each day. There was soooo much food being wasted in her house it was criminal and it upset her. Now with the meal plan this has reduced drastically and the carers say they love knowing what is planned each day because they can just look at the menu on the fridge door and take out the food from the freezer the previous evening or prepare veg/meat when they arrive instead of wasting time discussing what they should make for her. We even plan what type of soup/sandwich/crackers/fruit should be left for her lunch each day.
My mother has become much more involved and has once again full control of her meal planning. It also makes it easier for me shopping for her because now I don't just pick up what I think she might fancy but buy what she really wants.:)
Hope everyone has a frugal day. I am planning a NSD. Never thought I would ever achieve a NSD on a Saturday but now I try not to visit the supermarkets as a recreational activity and only go if I need to.It takes a long time to eat an elephant and I'm doing it a bite at a time!!!0 -
Have just looked at my spreadsheet and other months not including takeaways I have been spending much less than this, so am going to change my target to £150.MFW 2016 No 68 £1300/£8500 No new toiletries Cook sth different0

Just realised I haven't posted for a week. I'm now 20 days into a 35 day month. I've managed 8 NSDs so far, and have £95.05 left to complete the month. The freezer is well stocked, I have bread and milk to get me to Monday at least, and fruit, cheese etc for a few days more, so I don't see a problem with at least staying on target this month, even if I don't necessarily come in under.DFW Nerd no. 884 - Proud to [strike]be dealing with[/strike] have dealt with my debts0

Oh spent a tenner in Aldi yesterday on his way home from work & I also went to Tescos as I won't have time today. Total spend of about £66 which was a bit annoying cos I hadn't realised that Tescos had stopped taking the Farm Food vouchers and had actually bumped my Tesco shop up from the £40ish that I actually needed to £50+ in order to use a £5 FF voucher. Well stocked up on alcohol now although we do have guests coming tonight so will have to see how heavy a night we have on the beer & wine!
My month now ends on the 26th because that is when OH is now paid although last month I think I took it to about the 28th so I really must meet target this month.
Tomorrow we are having a joint of gammon which is huge! Any ideas of how I can use up the large amount of left overs that I know there will be?

Back from the shopping and spent £43 - £3 over my hoped for budget, £2 under the weekly budget - so, somewhere in the middle! At least it wasn't over budget!
£43 left in the budget and one shop left to go this month - might just squeak in under but it'll be very very tight!
Plan plan plan!0 -
Have to have a spend day today- really fancy gammon egg and chips for lunch and have no chips or potatoes so will need to go and get some.
I also need a mop still- have been holding off on this one for a while...I will maybe take a look in the market tomorrow for one.
I always thinly cut my gammon to get the most out of it (I have an electric slicer I got off of freecycle) and use the leftovers for gammon egg n chips, sandwiches, chicken and gammon pie etc etc. I do love a good bit of gammon
Well, I'm off to watch melancoly on iplayer to get the recipe again for Miss Dahl's chicken souplooks a great way to do it.

Not been on here all week, had a birthday and kept busy with various celebrations and family get togethers
so a fair bit of catching up to do.
Checked the freezer last night and have counted about 30 HM ready meals in there along with all the other stuff so have made OH aware that I MUST NOT buy any more meat today or cook anything for the freezer this week. Think I have more than enough to last until we go on holiday in 3 weeks time......volcano dust permitting
So far have been very good and only spent £12.91 between A*di and I*eland and not gone anywhere near M*rrisons :T so total spend for this month so far is £79.07 out of a budget of around £120 - well pleased as still have plenty in cupboards too.
Bit chilly here in central Scotland today so the rest of the tatties might not get planted but there's always tomorrow.0
