Any Rabbit advice ?

Lucky has had a visit to the vet today - he played 'dead' in the car and frightened the daylights out of DD who was taking him.
Confirmed as a healthy un-neutered male up to 1 year old. Just needs to be wormed. His claws were cut. Vet only charged 2/3 of normal fee as Lucky is a foundling which was kind (still £26 with wormer though)
Tonight he has been put in a seperate run in the stable where our other bunnies live so he can socialise a bit through the wire. He is interested and active and a source of amazement to the other rabbits.
We will book him in to be neutered.0 -
Spirit, you are so kind and loving.
I'd love to have a house rabbit or a cat, but I live in a flat and dont think it would be fair. Plus, i work full time, and would worry about it being at home alone.
I'm very jealous that you have chickens! My family used to have a farm (for pleasure, not eating - my mum would rehome anything and everything), and we had chickens, ducks, geese, goats, two rare breed sheep and a donkey, thats excluding many dogs and cats!!
Oh, we had a turkey too!!! All the farm animals have passed on, but mum still has cats. All rescued.
We bought 20 ex-battery hens for 75p each, and gave them a wonderful new life. They were at the end of their commercial egg-laying life, and would have been killed otherwise. They had never seen the sky or scratched in earth, or had dust baths. To see them grow in confidence and live a real chckens' life was lovely. They grew wonderful feathers and gave us the greatest eggs.
They were all Broilers. What breed are yours?
All broilers are called "Mary's" in our family. Somehow that name stuck.
I hope Lucky has a wonderful new life with you, Mr Spirit and your other rescued pets.:A"It's official, MSE's harbouring total fruitcakes">^..^<0 -
Hi Spirit, For future reference and in true money saving expert style you can buy panacur (bunny wormer) much cheaper at vet uk.
http://www.vetuk.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=1105
If you have lots of bunnies it may work out cheaper to use the 10% liquid.
http://www.vetuk.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=175
Dose for the liquid is 0.2ml per kg of bunny.0 -

You can still have a cat in a flat, just rescue one that is not able to go out for health reasons - FIV, FeLV, deaf/ partially sighted (might get run over), physically disabled .... if you are at work all day you could consider two as they will keep each other company, if not an elderly cat who sleeps a lot. There is a rescue cat for most circumstances providing you can offer a stable and safe home!
The important thing is to give indoor cats stimulation - so lots of interesting toys both interactive and solo play. I recently adopted Noah, who has a paw condition which means he cannot go on rough surfaces by order of the vet. He doesn't like other cats or dogs, so he is perfect for me and my little flat and he never, ever tries to escape. He seems really happy and loves cuddling, his food and mad play sessions!

Hi all
Nessy the chooks are a mixture, we have 14. Most are named after my colleagues! It makes me smile anyway.
5 ex batts
2 welsummers (big spiteful meannies)
1 light sussex
2 buff sussex
1 buff sussex cockerell
1 bantam gold laced wyandotte
1 buff sussex home bred - may be a boy:eek:
1 heinz -wynadotte/buff sussex homebread
Lucky is filling out - he felt razor backed when I first picked him up but is now less so.0 -
So glad Lucky found you.
I have 6 second chancers and rescues with me at the minute. Cherry was left to fend for herself in a park. 2 were 'lucky' enought to be dumped at a rescue, one was taken in by rescue, one was bred through poor knowledge of buns and Charlie in the avator was my 14 yr old cousins, who had become sick of the responsibility. The sign of a wasted life is a tidy house, Welcome to the chaos!0 -
Louise - Well done on gathering your own collection of cast offs.........it sort of just happens doesn't it? Not a conscious decision they just creep up on you.
Lucky is fine, he was in the house this morning (on the bed whilst Mr Spirit & I were still in it:o) we are trying to handle him a bit as we would like him to be confident with us eventually. He is very sweet.
Louise I did look but I could not see your avatar0 -
Update
I received a written response from RSPCA to my letter of complaint immediately with a PROMISE to respond to me within 28 days after investigating my complaint.
Well guess what, 28 days have now elapsed. No response. I've just phoned the writer of the letter, the National Complaints Co-ordinator, she's not in today so I left my details with someone else who will 'look into it'.
I'm beyond frustrated with them & certainly let them know it but just got the usual platitudes.
Update on the rabbit
It's very difficult to see what's going on without being spotted, but I'm certain the conditions with the bunny had not changed up until yesterday. Today there is no sign of the rabbit's cage at all! I have no idea where it is whether it has been moved somewhere else or possibly has died. Or maybe the RSPCA have visited recently & action taken.
I'll keep you all posted.
For RubyMoon
You tell me 'Don't put money before the welfare of the rabbit'.
It's my LIVING at stake, not a bit of pocket money. I'm not young, not in great health & losing my business & getting a police record is not the answer to this. Giving an opinion is fine but implying that I don't care about this poor creature is not. I'm doing my very best."Sometimes letting things go is an act of far greater power than defending or hanging on.”0 -
We were thinking about getting a hutch cover especially now the winter weather is really here, but am unsure - I hate thinking I'm being ripped off and the covers all seem so expensive for what is essentially a bit of tarpaulin.
Was looking at getting this one http://www.petcityonline.co.uk/shop/small-pets/hutch-hugger-1.html but am also unsure about the measurements, plus they jump in price quite a bit when you go up a size. How do I know if I need a made to measure one?
Also did a google product search to try to comapre prices but just seems to give the same covers at the same prices in different shops, hardly any difference.
Most likely will go the tarpaulin and bricks route!0
