Vet costs varies widely around the country, even within the same town or city: why don't you ring your vets and ask the price of a consultation and antibiotics?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

It could be abcess or cancer of one of the glands (these can grow incredibly quick!) etc - there is NO way to guess the cost... Call the vet and make an appointment - if it's too expensive to treat (ie cancer) then have the bunny humanely put down. If it's an abcess - cost again would depend on where you are, the vets and any possible complications... (there could be something in the abcess that needs surgical removal) so it's really difficult even for a vet to estimate this over the phone...DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Abscesses can be expensive as they are difficult to get rid of. I would have thought a minimum of £100 depending on how aggressive you want to be with treatment, although there will be a large amount of effort on your part required0

I would suggest the lump is being caused by a problem with the rabbit's teeth. This could be expensive - is the rabbit insured?0

Hi Mummy_jay,
Just thought id say my rabbit had an abcess near his ear alot small though about the size of a marble. He needed surgery rabbit abcesses arnt like cats their not liquid and instead like cottage chesse sorry to say so most often need to be cut out.
Anyway he went in just for the day cost £60 and then had to be seen every few days to check it wasnt re occuring which it did to a point and which the bits needed to be cut out which he didnt like one bit who would. These consultations cost about £15 a go and i had to wash it 3 times a day and put a barrier cream on it as the wound had to be left open.
The lump was hurting him he could have gone deaf where it was but after it healed he was much better. I will say it has come back at a fraction of the size though and its not hurting him atm though so the vet said to leave it as its not affecting him.
I was told by the vet they can come back at any time and are very tricky with rabbits. One thing i will say my rabbit was 7 when he had this done and hes 7 1/2 now so he was ok with the anesthetic. I found it a challange as ive got arthritis and am in alot of pain most of the time but i found it rewarding looking after him.
Just if it is an abcess be aware it could come back and like everyone else has said vet charges vary but this is what happened with me and i really hope you get whats best for your bunny as soon as possible.

Thank you for all you help.
We saw the vet last night, she said it was an abscess at the root of at least one (maybe more) tooth but that it had now spread to the other side of the jaw, she said though she could operate she wasn't comfortable doing so as it would involve removing teeth which in itself could bring other problems. So she's put him on antibiotics and we have to see how he goes, he's going back for another check up next week.
I really appreciate the help and support.0 -

Hi, have a very sweet but shy bunny, nearly 2 years old. She appears well, quite playful & eating well but in the last few days I have noticed that she has big lump of poo stick to her bottom. She is always cleaning herself, spends a lot of time cleaning her feet & washing her face ( I see her doing this at least once every day, usually a few times) and apart from the bottom problem looks very clean.
I tried to have a look and see what the problem was and pulled a bit of straw away that had a large piece of soft poo attached to it. But the next morning I noticed again she had a bit lump of poo, this time it was hard and it is either stuck to her fur or bottom so did come away. I can not pull at that would hurt her and could tear her skin or pull her fur out.
I have put her on a very plain diet (some people say just hay & water but as the weather is still cold I have kept her on her dry food as well but no fresh fruit or veg).
Trouble is she is really timid, likes to sit next to you and let you stoke her or brush her but will not let anyone pick her up and now she also will not let anyone near her bottom so I can not get a proper look to see what is going on.
Any advise welcome, it must be really uncomfortable for her & worried it will make her sore.
I'm sure if it was something she could sort out herself she would have done just that as she has always cleaned herself so much.0 -
Flies can lay eggs in the poop around bottoms, if the eggs hatch it is not nice at all.
Is your rabbit a biter, can you pick her up with oven gloves on? The poop needs bathing or snipping off - if you can't do it you might be best to go to the vet. If she has diarrhoea she might be best to go to the vet anyway.

Our rabbit also had this problem and we gave him weekly baths as a result. He got used to it in the end but hated it at first. They dont find it easy to clean down there but it needs to be removed and pretty much straight away as what Fire Fox says about the flies is correct. What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0
