  • Sorry Fire Fox :o I have Jeg lag & been flying all night from the states so not slept yet.
What I was trying to say was my brother has been looking after her for me however because he's been working he has not been able to see during the day if she is removing the fur herself biting/scratching or its just falling out.

Shes not very attached with me, so I dont think it could be that.

ClareEmily thats for your suggestion think I will do that.

Mr Spirit and I went out for dinner tonight. We live in arural area adjacent to a forest. As we drove down the hill to our house the headlights picked out a rabbit on the verge. OK plenty of rabbits round here, but Mr Spirit turned the car round and we went back to pick up a floppy eared ,white , pink eyed small bunny.

It's claws are overgrown and it is a bit skinny but it is now in a hutch with food, hay and water inside our stables. We have 5 other (rescue) bunnies so we will give this one a home - we have named it Lucky. Will take it to the vets tomorrow for a check up and to sex it.

This is no lost pet - it would have needed a taxi to get here - some g*t has dumped it - we found a litter of baby rabbits in almost the same place some years ago but only managed to capture one of them.

I think this one was on its own - poor little scrap.

This morning Miss Spirit was suggesting we could home more rabbits and I said NO. This is fate.
  • :hello:Hi Spirit!

Sounds like the rabbit is indeed lucky to have found kind and caring people such as yourselves to take him home and look after him! I expect he is enjoying his home comforts and supper in your stables!

    Thanks FC

I never fail to be amazed at the cruelty and ignorance of people who dump animals - in my little row of cottages every house has at some time brought kittens, cats, dogs, rabbits, chickens, peacocks (1) in from the woods .

We are leaving lucky to rest tonight and not popping in and out as the poor little thing must be quite scared - it never even tried to run away when I caught it - it is in the same stable as the chickens and out of sight of our other buns as they may be a bit aggressive and we want to make sure this one is healthy.

My rather nice suede shoes will probably never look the same again after stalking along the forest edge - but hell who likes pointy toed red heels anyway.
  • oh your poor shoes - they sound like they are (or were!) rather lovely too! I hope Lucky appreciates your sacrifice!

I think some people have some sort of deluded idea that a domestic rabbit, cat or dog will somehow be able to 'fend for itself' in the countryside and live some sort of wild lifestyle... which of course is ridiculous...

    Glad you found him anyway!

Sacrificing your nice shoes to rescue a rabbit - that is true dedication to pets. Well done to you and Mr Spirit for stopping to pick up Lucky and giving him/her a home.

My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead :D

  • Good for you for rescuing this poor bunny, my 2 came from RSPCA after someone saw 2 bunnies being dumped on the road out of a van window, she only managed to catch 1 of them and 10 days later she had a litter of 5 bunnies, of which i have 2, i know from your kindness already that this one will have a good life now as you are caring people and this is definately one Lucky bunny....well done....another pair of shoes can always be bought...!!!!!

Bunny doing well. Quite settled and now a bit 'nervous' running in to his bed when we open the hutch. When we found him he was so 'flat' he never even tried to run away. He is eating well and we have a vets appointment for him for Wednesday. We are saying "he" as we peeked and he appears to have undercarriage.

My neighbour told us today that they had found the remains (front paws and some fur) of a domestic rabbit in their field on Friday - so it may have been that Lucky and at least one other were dumped together.

As I said in my opening post - G*t.
  • What a lovely story for Lucky:p, can't believe some people are so cruel! they are such defenseless animals.

I have recently taken on an older rabbit and he is so lovely, and I can't believe that people would harm animals that wouldn't hurt anyone or anything!
