& before you class me as one of the two I suggest you look back to where it started... Again..

No you shouldn't Hamish, as the threat has gone. You should be able to defend yourself in your home but if the scum turns and runs then chase him/her by all means and perform a citizens arrest but that should not allow you to use excessive violence.

No, I understand completely the issues surrounding imminent danger and use only of reasonable force to end the immediate threat of harm.

I just still think you should be able to chase junkie scum down the street and beat them senseless with a cricket bat. For sheer entertainment value if nothing else.:D

Sort of Mad Max meets Hamish McTavish. And cricket.

Perhaps we can sell the concept to ITV?

Phew, I did think I was about to be flamed. Not that would be life changing.

Being responsible. Going to go back now to the 60`s. A nice couple lived next door who had a daughter. I would be early teens. A strange gloom came upon our home. What was going on?

Well the daughter of next door was impregnated ( sounds like matches ) by her steady boy friend. This would be the early 60`s. Oh my, what a to do. No problem, the boy friend HAD to marry her. Indeed he did but the Mother would not go to the wedding. Such was the shame. Benefits, not at all, he was off to a job and make no mistake.

The point I am making is in the last 40 years or so, morals have shifted. I had a bloke ( kid ) working for me when I had the shop. Nice lad. Father, another story. Oh how we should feel sorry for him. Not been able to work since he was in his mid 20`s. Crumbling bones you see.

Now crumbling bones are a funny thing. If your sons employer moves house and some heavy building work is needed, they become better. His quote was far lower than anyone else. However, I couldn`t stand the loud mouth sexist so I guess he had to go back to crumbling bones.

    Can't argue that mate :rotfl::rotfl:

I thought they didn't play cricket north of the border.

Probably too highbrow for them :D

For years I`ve been self employed and I think small businesses should be helped. Raise the VAT threshold to £100,000. 50% off buisness rates for the first five years. Something that would help fill up alot of empty shop premises.

I would like to have a really good look around an NHS hospital. I was a nurse 25 years ago. The administration now is horrendous. There used to be a ward, charge nurse, consultant and secretary and a few patients it was nearly as simple as that. I`ve friends who do such fantastically well paid, totally meaningless jobs, I`d love to axe them all. Nobody would miss them.

I`d also like to be in charge of publically funded building work - how come its so expensive?

Oh and every day would be the first day of spring.

Are you sure you're on the right thread, Spartacus?

This is the Serious Suggestions to Improve Things thread.

I think the Taking the Mick thread is in full swing at The Arms at the moment... :)

I liked your ideas, fc, esp the last one - I don't see the point in taxing people with one hand and giving it back in tax credits with the other. Far too little incentive too work, too little pride in work, too great an incentive to lie eg about being in a relationship, or worse still, to end a relationship, for financial reasons, far too much bureaucracy involved and paid for, far too much opportunity for fraud...I think the whole tax credits thing is loopy.

Make work pay enough - then no need to top it up or choose to stay on benefits. Reduce benefits back to a safety net level, except for those who GENUINELY CAN'T- not won't work.

Why are you attacking fc123, their comment was fair and well made. I have tried to take the spat to PM to save clogging up the forum.

Yes, it started with this totally unjustified attack on me. You cannot go around insulting people without there being consequences for your actions.

Before this I had never heard of you but I am not taking this sort of sh i t, especially from someone incapable of making a point well, lying down.

Quite frankly keyboard warrior bullies like you are dime a dozen.

You are the one with the insults and the harassment.

There are plenty more as well. I have not swore at you once so why have you insulted me. There were others during the week that have been deleted as well. But if it makes you feel good about yourself then carry on big man.
