Penelope_Penguin wrote:Hi, all. Thanks for the tips on slack/dross. Was just talking with OH about trying to keep our coal fire lit overnight. We usually let it go out in the evening, then have to relight in the morning. Anyone have a recipe for making the bricks?
Great excitement round here - we're verrrrrry close to the climate action, so loads of police and roadblocks. My friend was stopped by the plods this morning, and then had to take a huge diversion home, as her shortest way was blocked! As I drove home, though, Drax power station was still going.
As requested; Lemon Curd.
In a bowl mix 75g caster sugar and grated rind of a large lemon (I use a zester, as I like the big bits of peel). Add juice of the lemon and 2 large eggs. Add 50g unsalted butter, and place the bowl over a pan of just simmering water. Stir until thickened (about 20mins). Store in sterilised jars. Keeps in the fridge for about 2 weeks.
Lovely with shortbread. Mine was all finished at work. Made a lovely present for a friend - stack of heart and star shortbreads in a pretty bag (with a gusset, btw).
DH will be home soon, and taking me to pictures. Bearing in mind we're child free, what has he persuaded me to see - Superman! He can tell DS. Icemaiden - we're coming over your way, so wave if you see 2 penguins!
Had leaflet from our local Arts Centre, and John Hegley will be there on my birthday. Children are off school for a training day, and DH has a day off work. So as long as DH extracts his digit, and gets tickets, will be a good day.
Did some excavating under my desk. I've been sitting there for a year, and found a lovely laptop bag. Never seen anyone use it, so I liberated it and it will make a great Flylady mobile office - loads of pockets, and interesting flaps and toggles.

I looked out for you this morning when I saw it on the local news.

Evening everyone - the kids really enjoyed Techniquest and we were finished a lot earlier than I expected. As Kaz had to get home for her DS's paperround we managed to get an earlier train home. The guard was not very pleasant about it though, she kept on about if we wanted to change trains we should have bought full price tickets! A right jobs worth and obviously not an MSE'er, she did let us on eventually but made me feel very small in front of my two tired children
Kaz is just as lovely as she was before and brought me some KefirI arrived home to lots of lovely bits and bobs in the post and my Kenwood Chef had been delivered. DH was teasing me and saying I would have it sat on the sofa beside me so I could stroke it all night

Evening all.
Having started the thread this morning & chivvying you all to get on with it I now feel a little bit ashamed that I haven't actually posted properly.:o
PP It must be difficult for you to support your friend when you've been going through such a rough time yourself. Miscarriage is such a hard thing to bear, I miscarried at 22 weeks more than 30 years ago & if I let myself think about it I still cry. I was lucky that I've since had 2 wonderful sons & I can't imagine how your friend is feeling knowing that can never happen for her.
Mimi I think you're being taken for granted & are quite justified in feeling like you do. If you're anything like me you'll just seethe inside & put up with it for the sake of keeping the peace but I actually think explaining calmly how you feel is a much more positive reaction.
Moggins & Kaz I don't know what Techniquest is? I expect that's because my kids are now adults Glad you had a good day.
I know lots of other people have posted about significant things but these are the ones that stuck in my mind.
I've decided I'm not very good at this - lots of you remember EVERYTHING, I'm better as a lurker I think.
Please remember that I have to leave for work at 7am & I normally sit down for breakfast about 6.30 - don't let me down.:rotfl:0 -
Hello to everyone at once, as there are so many posts I haven't a hope of keeping everyone and what they've said straight in my head!
Haven't been sleeping the best recently and now I think I know why - so many of you don't seem to be sleeping either - can you catch insomnia over MSE? :rotfl:
Was hoping I'd get some thread delivered today, including a lovely gold one which I can't wait to see/use, but it hasn't arrived yet so will have to keep a look out for it tomorrow. haven't been up to mutch this evening, just made toasties for tea, and will have to see about putting the kettle on soon. It was very warm weather here today, but it started to rain a bit on the way home, and I have been told that there's a bad weather front heading our direction, so I won't be planning on putting any washing out any time soon!
Have a good evening everyone!*hugs*

I've sat and watched Anthea and then got so tired of looking at the mess in my living room that I've now gutted it, it's all tidied and hoovered and polished, the kids will wreck it again in the morning I'm sure. I'm off to take the oldies shopping in the morning, then into town to get name labels and try to find more white knee length socks.
Then it will be onto the dining room and kitchenOrganised people are just too lazy to look for things
