Hi there! I basically answered an ad in new scientist advertising a PhD position and went for it! There are fair few people who work here (Medical Physics) who have worked in the NHS and have done part time Masters degree while working (the NHS funded them) and have then gone on to do research. The clinical scientist programs organises them all.

  • Hi everyone (again)

Busy day today. Glad I have the long weekend to recover. Shopping is done, DS and DD are happy they have had a busy day and washing is up to date. Time for a wee glass of wine or three and put my weary feet up.

Mimi - My street has terrible parking problems and the council are introducing parking bays for residents. We had a meeting because they were actually going to reduce the number of spaces!!!! I live near the university so anytime a house goes up for sale, the buy-to-letters (damn their very souls) are renting out to students -every one of whom has car (god forbid the poor little souls should have to walk more than half a mile). So now where we are able to park 17 cars, we will be restricted to 11. Relationships will be strained amongst the residents let alone anyone looking for a fly free space.

BargainRZL You are sooooo lucky being able to get to the proms. It is one of my ambitions to get to the proms before I die (if that sounds pathetic I apologise - wait a minute, no I dont!) I love Mozart. Absolutely. Totally. Completely. I risked life and limb to take photographs of the violin and piano he played as a child in Salzburg. I adore opera but for some strange reason (and some people have told me I am very strange but what the hey) I cannot listen to cds of opera. I MUST be watching it. I am so delighted that my DD (who is 10) is also an opera buff and we have agreed that we will go and see Madama Butterfly for her 11th birthday. She is so made up about that. BTW, well done on the "men" front. Just go with your instinct and you will be fine.

Seraphina - welcome, you very clever woman. Northern Ireland and Lanarkshire aren't so very far apart. Both us calling them gutties is just another connection between NI and the west of Scotland.

Loubee and Seraphina You are obviously very clever women who are achieving their potential. Well done to both of you. I am, of course, very jealous because I have never reached my potential. (Long story there but my father had a massive heart attack at 43 which had many consequences throughout the family). I wish you both every success.

PenPen, if you are reading this, I hope you are feeling better sweetie.

This site is an amazing source of comfort to so many people and I am glad and privileged to be part of it.

  • Skystar Forgot to mention you in my last post. Sorry!!!!!! :o

I am guessing that you are from Shotts or thereabouts. Would I be right? Just going by the clues you gave (the east of Lanarkshire but working in West Lothian). I am from Newmains but have lived in Preston for the last 17 years. Haven't lost the accent though. :rotfl:
