Free gnocchi is very good
However, as DH has informed me he's just spent over £30k on a car I need a lot more free and cheap things to help the budget!

Ooph 30k on a car seems like a lot but I assume it works for you guys. Glad no one was hurt in the accident though!
So unfortunate that DS1 didn't get into the course he wanted, there will be another opportunity for him but he must be upset.
Your savings are incredible, keep going!6 -

It IS a lot! Not my choice to spend that amount - but he does earn the money.... (I do wonder sometimes, though, why I'm doing 20p surveys and scanning in receipts for 5p credit and similar...... )

He is - but at the mo he needs to concentrate on his dissertation and then exams and then figure next year out. He'll be ok

Thank you - I will! :0 x
So what have we been up to in week 1 of the Easter Hols.... the answer is not a lot! Huge lamb dinner last Sunday, with some yummy bits for leftovers - and a very nice lemon and raspberry cake which we ate over several daysKids have generally caught up on R&R with an hour or so of revision each day for DS2 and reading for DS3 (not something he minds doing - but Lego and laptop games will always be a preferred choice!!) I have spent many hours on Anc3stry and have raised as many new questions as those I have answered from there. My uncle paid for a family tree some years back - and I have managed to find that a 'fact' the researchers settled on early in the tree was not what they said - so everything they found then going back was inaccurate - so I've started re-working that. I did discover, though, that DD is a 3rd cousin of someone she was at primary school with - talk about a small world! And today I discovered that our neighbours in the mid-late 1990s (who were grandparents of someone from my class in school) lived next door to my grandparents in the early 1970s!
I have spent lots of time (and so far £24.99 on a certificate to prove something with someone with a very common local name - no plans to spend more, but I needed this to sort out the errors we have on file from the paid family tree research) DH now has his new car - and we have organised DS1's bday present - and that's about it

Ooh, you were doing the ancestry downloads as well! I was filling in a blank space where we mistakenly thought we'd come to a dead end, vaguely similar but so fantastic to take it back. And there are more records included than ever - even as late as the 1880s, there are Catholic records in Latin - I'm going to have to work a bit to translate, even though I did Latin O level that was a loooong time ago.2023: the year I get to buy a car5

It's such a fabulous way to spend time - but so easy to get sucked in for hours and hours! We have complications in the tree from someone who was a B*rnard0s child and was given a name when they arrived there - not sure we'll ever trace that backwards. Also an 'aunt' was supposedly brought up by her apparent mum's sister (story was out of wedlock or unable to cope) - but the sister was married when aunt was born and she had another baby 8 months later... timescales are a bit off and no record of birth under any name can be found.... argh!
That aside, it's still good funI am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £206 -
Oof, thats a bit of a jigsaw - maybe one to take to those Open Days held at libraries, or a zoom meet now Good luck! It's amazing the number of babies who got transferred across families.2023: the year I get to buy a car5
