Thanks sanzai..I will call them tomorrow (Sunday). Their lines are open 10am-4pm. Man, I hate this last minute ISA stuff. So damn stressful..;-))
You should have seen the poor lady trying to handle all these last minute applications at my branch. I really felt sorry for her.

Even if you invest the full £5100 on day one, the difference between 3.5% & 3.2% is only £15.30 over the full year. I'm not denigrating that - just saying, don't get too stressed over it, stress is a killer & £15.30 is the price of one half-decent bottle of wine.

(I'm on your side here, I hate this stuff too, just saying, don't get stressed over what's actually not much).

jh2009, sam37, essexmate and other lucky people who managed to get through to santander and open the 2010/11 cash isa- can you please confirm: what was the interest rate that you will get for the 2010/11 cash isa- 3.5% or 3.2%? I went into the branch today and was told I could only get 3.2% for the 2010/11 year. Unfortunately I have used up my entire 2009/10 allowance with another isa provider so will miss out on 3.5% with santander..

Yes, the advisor said the application to the offer (3.5%) had gone through as we spoke, and I had 30 days to get all the paperwork they were going to send me back to them.

Many thanks oxenryd for your tip off and also hallmark for the reality check ;) as I also was getting a little stressed last night when I read the thread. Anyway thanks to essexmate I rang this morning - was queuing for approximately 15 mins but got through and opened an account there and then and have got my Sort Code and Account number ready for paying in on 6th. My BF, my Mum and also my Dad are all doing the same thing as I type............every penny counts and this was the account we'd had in mind for the next tax year

Just phoned them to open account ready to fund for 2010/11 and they would not let me - said they were opening for current tax year only.
Do Money Saving sites make you buy more bargains - and spend more money?
  • Just to add some information and thanks to this.

I rang yesterday to transfer my Direct Isa Issue 3 to Issue 6. This was done easily and quickly with me just saying 'can you move it from 3-6' and it was done. Nice interest rate increase for me there for doing nothing.

I said can I open the 3.5% flexible online and they said they thought that was in branch only so I thought that was that. To be fair it may have been a different department so they might not have been 100% on it.

Read this post this morning. Rang the number listed here. Waited about 2 minutes. Asked to open the 3.5% flexible ISA. They said this year or next. I said next (2010/2011). They said yep you can do this on the phone. 5minutes later I was all signed up.

I've got my sort code and acc number. Obviously I can't transfer until 6th April but it is good to go.

So if anyone gets told no I suggest they try again. As I already had an account with them I did not even have to go through any information about address etc etc.

    Andy.

Ring back - you must have got through to someone who didn't know what they were talking about. I called the Santander number that Essexmate posted yesterday

The Flexible ISA @ 3.5% doesn't allow transfers in, they're for new money only. I assume that means transfers from other A&L ISAs too.

    I got a poor service

I signed up beginning of March, no emails no form they sent. Rang up 2 and a bit weeks later to chase it up, several calls later I got told that we need to go to local branch to show them ID (due to money laundering) even though we bank with them

When I went to local branch I told them what happened I gave them the ISA application number, they told me it means nothing to them, they said I need to open a new ISA account, which we did there and then

No need to go into the branch. I just applied to Santander over the phone on 0800 587 2764. I had to queue on the line for about 20 mins, but I didn't mind as they were paying for the call :j It was all done in about 10 mins after that. The lady with Irish accent (UK call centre) just needed my National Insurance number. And with that she confirmed my allowance for this tax year and said I would be able to deposit another £5100 after April 6th and she opened the account and gave me my account number and sort code. She advised that I should transfer money via my existing internet bank as soon as possible (by 1st April) to meet this years deadline. She said I could deposit funds straight away if I like. Im really happy as I didn't really want to have to visit the branch. Whilst in the phone queue the recorded announcement said that Santander would also take applications over the phone on Sunday this week to meet demand.
