Ok, new question from me.
I want to sign up to this account and keep my current NatWest one and have a few questions.
1. I already have a Nationwide ISA, albeit with a zero balance. Will they still credit check me?
2. Will they credit check me for the current account, overdraft and credit card all in one or separate searches?
3. I am starting a new job on october 3rd but need this account asap as I'm going on holiday in 10 days time. In terms of giving them my details, is it best to give them my new job details and if so will this mean I'm likely to fail the credit check?0 -
the boss:
Yes they will credit check u in all circumstances:, if u apply for the current account , they may offer u prerefential credit card, so its just one search, Personally i would give them ur current job infoFor everthing else there's mastercard.
For clampers there's Barclaycard.0 -

Ok, I guess that would work - but does my salary have to be paid into the account? I could keep it being paid into my NatWest and then just transfer over.0 -
No, there is no minimum funding on the Nationwide FlexAccount. Nor does it have to be your 'main' account.0

Wouldn't be too great to be using the card for withdrawals and lose it during a holiday, and be stuck without any access to money!
I have just lost my nationwide card in amsterdam. I couldn't contact them because the number to call is not freephone from abroad and i had no cash to buy a phone card etc etc. I had a tiny amount of credit on mobile (and as it costs about £1.50 per minute to call the uk from there i knew it wouldn't go far enough to allow me to call nationwide) so i called my dad who was staying at my house pet-sitting. He armed himself with all my statements and account details and went off to nationwide up the road who wouldn't cancel my card due to the data protection act and wouldn't accept responsibility for anything spent on it after he informed them it was lost/stolen.
After about 2 hours of him moaning and them trying to call me (who obviously couldn't answer as there was no credit on the mobile and i couldn't top up without a card) they cancelled it but i still had no way of getting money out. Luckily it was our last day and we had taken some emergency english money with us or we'd have been screwed.
don't rely on just the cash points. On our honeymoon we went to one city and i swear there was not a working cashpoint anywhere it was a nightmare.
I'm never relying on my flexaccount card abroad again.0 -
I thought you'd call Visa or MasterCard (depending on which you have, ATM/Debit), using their toll free number from your country, and have the card cancelled?0

there wasn't a toll free number with my flexaccount. i tried the number and i needed money for it. it was all a big pile of poo!0

If you ever need to call a UK freephone number from abroad, always try to find an alternative number at www. saynoto0870.com.
All of the Nationwide numbers are listed here, so you could have phoned direct and quicker.
Better luck in future.0 -

Depending on what card I had, that'd be my port of call if I lost the card whilst abroad (ATM card = Cirrus = Mastercard, Debit Card = Visa).
I just want to know if Nationwide have any kind of emergency card replacement policy!
