    Another North Notts person here.

I have some carrotts, red white onion sets, garlic and shallots in the ground (have been for a few weeks) and beetroot albino planted last week.

In the greenhouse I have peas, beans (kidney and french), sweet orange peppers, celery, courgettes, tomatoes, lettuce, squashes.

I have my chillies starting in the kitchen windowsill.

I will plant some broad beans next week direct in the ground.

ETA Also have potatoes in the greenhouse in bags
It's nice to be nutty but's more important to be nice

North staffs here too. Got nothing in the ground yet, but toms are on the windowsill and peppers sown indoors yesterday. We bought some chickens in September last year who had free range in the garden and they ate absolutely everything that was left in the veg patch - even eating all the strawberry runners that we were going to use this year, so we're starting from scratch again this year. Having said that, we do put all their manure in the compost bin so they should be in better books soon. We've dug the plot and added some more compost and let the chickens loose on the plot and they've done a fantastic job of scratching the compost in - the area looks fantastic now.

So now we've cordoned the plot off with 6 foot high chicken wire fences to keep the blighters off this time, so hopefully everything we grow will be for our consumption, although we'll be growing some perpetual spinach for the chooks - it's their favourite.

A friend suggested growing strawberries in some guttering attached horizontally to the wall so we're trying that this time and the same friend's contributing some strawberry plants as well. And last week I wove a pea/bean obelisk (is that the right word?) at an allotments open weekend so that's ready for action.

Sorry to ramble, looking forward to reading this thread and it's nice to know there's other midlanders out there trying to grow their own.

I'd be surprise if we get snow that settles in the midlands it will more than likely be rain rain and more rain. As far as frost is concerned...i don't put any tender crops out until the end of May here in Leicestershire and even at the beginning of June one year i lost my tomato plants to frost. But your spuds will be nice and warm under the soil. Just make sure you earth them up once or twice after they emerge above the soil to help protect them from the frost or throw some fleece over at night if a frost is forecast.
