Nervous about having a boy!

My first born was a boy and so far he has been far less trouble than his younger sister.

He is only 7 so have no way of knowing what he will be like when he is older but he is a delight to be around - thoughtful, polite, easy going chap - but perhaps I am just lucky?

DD on the other hand bless her is lovely too but she comes with her strops, a strong will and desire to be independent (lots of good qualities I'm sure that will help her in later life but make parenting somewhat more difficult at times )

From what I know of my nieces and nephews I don't think the dynamics between my 2 are that unusual.

A typical example - DD had a bowling party at the weekend - one team of 5 boys and a team of 5 girls - I was 'team leader' for the girls - short straw! :D
They were arguing with each other over who would bowl first/who was sitting next to who, grew bored of the game and wanted to wander around alone and 2 of them ended up in tears.

The boys on the other hand just played the game of bowling - twas as simple as that :D

Girls are far more complex creatures that's for sure - my mum says that we were the same when we were kids (I have 2 sisters) - my poor dad had no hair left by the time he was 30!!!

I personally would have another boy in a heartbeat - I am not sure I could manage another DD! :D

I have two boys and i wouldn't swap them for anything in the world. My sister has three girls and my god i'm so glad i had boys.
Yes we have strops, tantrums, but nothing like the girls who are stroppy, demanding little madams who demand attention.

Boys just seems to more loving, and just randonly come out with "i love you mammy", or "mam your the best" for some unknown reason. Last time my eldest said it (he's 9 nearly 10 and hitting puberty oh the joy) was because i walked in with some nachos. Unlike my nieces who said get that thing out of here if its not pink i don't want it , .

They messy, burp but so sweet and gorgeous and easily amuse themselves. So true pennywatcher.

    A boy any day!

With a boy you only have one willy to worry about! :D

    haha i love that!

anyway i dont have kids, but from the perspective of being the only daughter of a mum who has three sons, i admit i was a bit of a terror during my stroppy teen days... but girls have their benefits too!

i'm the most thoughtful of the four of us when it comes to calling my mum to meet up for lunch, remembering birthdays, anniverseries, mothers days and getting all my brothers to get involved. now that we are grown i consider myself a great daughter! and my mum is happy to have me!

and just think when you're older, you may have the opportunity to have grandchildren that you can be really close to, as they will be from your own daughter, not daughter in law.

my best pal has a wee baby girl and she is an absolute delight. she's such a sweetie and there are lots of cute baby girl clothes and toys out there to have fun with

good luck with your baby i'm sure she will be gorgeous!

    xx

I have a (nearly) 14 year old DS and I'm pregnant. :shhh:I'm secretly hoping it's another boy so I have "my boys"... but will of course be happy with either flavour:)

The thought of having a girl does terrify me though:o Pink things!!!:eek::eek::rotfl:

I was convinced I was going to have a daughter but three kids all being sons down the line I can honestly say I wouldn't change y boys for the world. They are a delight! My friends with girls and both say that boys are far easier!
    3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

I was terrified of havuing a boy for just the reasons you mention. I was an only child and knew nothing about them. But my son is kind, gentle, polite and respectful. What I've realised is that as with all children, it's about how you bring them up, not whether they're boys or girls. If you're firm but fair, and most of all, consistent, you'll bring up a lovely little boy. Good luck!

Girls can be a lot more of a handful than boys! I'm evidence of that, my parents had two boys and then me- despite originally wanting a fourth they decided not to after I was born. I was queen of tantrums, would muck up mum's best clothes and makeup, insist on wearing my best dresses outside and ruin them, and I even demanded that I be allowed to follow a woman because she had 'pretty shoes'. Even the cutest girly-girl can be a nightmare :D In comparison my brothers were sensitive, well-behaved and able to enjoy quiet activities whilst I ran around screaming. And I only got worse when I reached my teens.

I would keep in mind that not all boys come in the same mucky, rough-and-tumble football-mad package, and girls aren't always sweet, girly and quiet! I would also remind you that boys have a tendancy to be mummy's boys whilst girl's tend to be daddy's little princess :p

I could have written your post when I found out that I was expecting my son

me too... i wasnt a big fan of boys as looking around at my freinds children all thiers seemed to be bloody little monsters...
but my son is loving, endlessly cute and... well, he can be a little monkey but hes only 2 (but very good at it)

My daughter was a delight until she hit about.... 8 (shes nearly 10 now but may not actually make her birthday if she carries on)
the stroppy little madam is currently in her bedroom lsitening to some boyband while pretending to tidy,

Jen151 - I am hoping that the part of your post I have highlighted will be true of my DD when her and DS get older.
I have heard others say this and am really hoping it will be the case for us :)
