I know you've said it's light-hearted and a bit of a joke, but I actually think it's patronising and rude.

If I wrote something like that for my DH I'd not only come home to none of it having been followed but I'd probably have received a few choice words in text messages on the matter.

But it doesn't matter, because I wouldn't write something like that - DH just said so :D

Really??? Not your type of humour? - see if i left it for my OH i'd prob 1st of all tape it to his forhead so he deffinately cant miss it:rotfl:, he'd do what he can and then i'd get an equally amusing list ready for me when i get back...and then we'd just giggle it off.:p:D

Depends on tyoe of humour that gets you going i suppose, we are often quite sarcastic to one another but never in a nasty way - always jokey! Like i'll ask him to unload the washing machine (i'm pretty heavily preg now so it's a struggle) he'll get up all 'Kevin & Perry' huffing and muttering ''God, i do EVERYTHING in this house'' and then smirk at me and wink and go do it - knowing full well i do a hell of alot and it's his sarcastic way of making a joke of it! But i know him so it just makes me giggle! x

  • I hope your DH realises that it is meant to be funny as it doesn't read that way to me. I would feel more than a bit insulted if my OH left me that note.

I too think it is patronising and rude.

Why does it matter if he does things differently to you ?(or doesn't do them at all, it's only two days).

He's not likely to forget to feed the children, now is he?

You're making him sound like some moron who has no brains or initiative.

GabyJane, you appear to be getting 'some stick' for this light-hearted thread!

'He's not likely to forget to feed the children' - my OH would forget when he was 'in charge' on a Saturday if I went out for the day - because he'd have a big breakfast which would see him through until mid-afternoon, kids would have eaten early, and be starving by noon, and they'd have to remind him.... so yes, easily done!

More reassurance from me - when our youngest (now 16) was a baby I had an accident which rendered my fairly useless for several months. OH was in charge of the baby (scarey:eek:) - and the rugby international was on. Baby was teething, older brother had earache, I went out for the afternoon. Told OH to rub teething gel onto baby's gums if he appeared bothered by pain (the baby!). So he did..... except he didn't read the label and rubbed the stuff for ear ache onto DS's gums, and then, when I came home and realised what he'd done, made ME ring the GP to check it was ok. Luckily GP thought it hilarious and there was no harm done, but at the time OH was in a very responsible job.

I think you need to take sensible precautions, could you not find someone to husband sit for the weekend?

  • Completely agree redbern - i think some people have a lesser sense of humour than others. Clearly GabyJane would only leave this if she knew her husband would see the funny side of it - if not she'd be gearing for a row which i don't think she'd do purposely at all. He'll prob find it cheeky but amusing - and so it is! I'm sure he is equally cheeky to her at times.

Lol, Go for it GabyJane - tape it to his forhead too while he's sleeping, lol! x

  • It is a difference in sense of humour then, I don't see it as funny at all, just sarcastic (which to me is not humour) and patronising.

I accept that some people might find it funny.

That's the crux of the thing though isn't it? It doesn't matter one iota what you or I might feel about it, the OP's hubby is the one that matters. Only the OP will know if he'll respond well or not.

My OH would be likely to ask me to write him a list. Of course I would then also have to take the opportunity to add in a few choice observations of my own. :D

LOL that's exactly what I'm getting from my DH atm MGEB :)

I once left DH a list of jobs that needed doing while I was at work (we had both sets of parents coming round for tea) and I was so amused when I came home and found that not only had he done them all but he'd actually ticked the jobs off as he went along :rotfl:

My parents once left my brother a list like this when they went on holiday. They printed several copies and put it various places around the house, including the front door. The list contained things like "don't forget to shut the windows/lock the back door/turn the telly off" when you go out.

He still went out and left a frying pan over a flame on the hob.
