Why?
The debt numbers are better than forecast, revenue is stronger than forecast, the Tories are on screen now talking about further tax cuts !!!!!!.
Borrowing forecast to be 100 billion lower over 5 years than previously believed.
The markets will not be displeased with today.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

efficiency savings?
oh pls, and spin-out companies?
just wondering whether labour are going to be brave enough to do the right thing.0 -
They are planning to provide funding for 20,000 science, maths and engineering places.
Apart from that, they are putting a small amount of money into research, and expecting universities to have 'efficiency cuts' that are absolutly huge - but unspecified in the actual speach.
The truth is, misskool, you are pretty stuffed.
excellent, efficiency savings = no research. nice one darling.0 -
Theres also an extra £4 per week for people with one and two year olds.
That in it'self will buy some votes I would have thought. Every little helps.0 -

Production line method.;)
I would say if the conservatives were doing it, it would not be much different this year.
But if the figures are right perhaps the conservative cuts (next FY) will not be as deep as some expected either.0 -

Why?
Spending:
Tax credits up for certain people
£4 per week for those with children 1-2 years old
Winter Fuel Payment increase held
ISA increase rise (means less revenue, so classing as a spend)
Spending to increase 2.2%
Business rates cut
CGT relief doubling
£385m extra for roads
Investment banks
Pensions increase
Revenue Creation:
1% on tobacco
2% on alcohol
1p on fuel
10% on cider
Dunno if it's just me who can see the slight issue here. I have left out all of the policies that are basically paying for themselves. Such as the government loans, stamp duty etc.
This only leaves me to think that the government is relying on the tax allowance freeze and NI increase to pay for everything else.
But this leaves me begging the question of how they will reduce the defecit, other than simply hoping and praying their optimistic growth forecasts come through.0 -

The markets are not as easy to dupe as some'In nature, there are neither rewards nor punishments - there are Consequences.'0 -

I think this would be your list then...............
I would say that even your list is offset against and spending had not increased without collection at least matching.0
