Hi there. Not sure if this is thre right place to ask, but can anyone tell me if it is okay to freeze unopened packs of shop bought mince pies and a Christmas Cake? The packs mention nothing about them being suitable for freezing. Thanks.0

mince pies and cakes should be fine in freezer0

Hi I've noticed that my bio yoghurt and lots of other shop bought yoghurts have "not suitable for freezing" on the containers. Does anyone know why this is and why they cannot be frozen?
Has anyone ever tried freezing yoghurt?
Many thanks,

It can be frozen (and will be perfectly fine) but will kill the bio cultures so when defrosted will no longer be live bio yoghurt, just plain old yoghurt!A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0

You can freeze yogurt, but it ruins the texture. That may not be a problem depending what you want to use the yogurt for.0 -
Hi What about the pre and pro biotics does anyone know if freezing makes them inactive?0

thriftlady wrote: »Not true;) I regularly freeze live bio yogurt to use for starting a batch of homemade yogurt. If the cultures were killed I wouldn't get yogurt.
That's correct - the cultures go into hibernation, rather than be killed
I've frozen pots of yoghurt - the full fat ones tend to separate (but are fine by being stirred) and the low fat ones form ice crystals (they have a higher proportion of water). I quite like to freeze them and eat as a frozen ice with a spoon
I'll add this to the existing thread on what can or can't be frozen.

if you pop across to the Old Styl board they may well have answered this in their post about freezing anything, it is a sticky, and if not they have a Q&A board which might get you loads of responses.... (sorry i do not know, well excpet that yes you can freeze anything, but you may not want to eat if when defrosted....)
