Now I've managed to freeze both cooked pasta and mashed potatoes quite well. Pasta - the trick is in the reheating 'cos otherwise it's goes soggy and there isn't anything quite as revolting as soggy pasta.

Again mashed potatoes I have only reheated in the microwave and defrosted properly first.

Pasta freezes well if it is in a sauce. Best to cook it by 2-3 mins less than the time on the packet as it carries on cooking while cooling and then cooks a bit more as it reheats.

Rice can be frozen... lots of myths around about the dangers of frozen rice. The trick with rice is to cool it quickly and then to reheat it thoroughly. It is only when rice hangs around at room temp that it becomes unsafe.

Did you freeze the pasta within a sauce... or just on its own ?

I have done it within a sauce previously... but its sooooo not attractive when defrosted and reheated again:confused:

Yes I've frozen plain cooked pasta - but will make sure it's undercooked before I freeze it.

i freeze rice. i know some say u shouldn't due to bateria etc. but i've never had any prob's with it.

also i freeze fairy cakes well. i freeze them in bags of 5 or 6. then take a bag out in morning, add to 1 to each lunch box , their deforsted in a coupe hour's.

or if i ice them , i get them out night before , ice while frozen and put straight into lunch box. and by morning icing hardened and cake deforsted. they also stay very moist and yummy. can't taste they been frozen

I know that cheese can be frozen...... and it seems to be better if it is grated first.....

Never been succesful freezing a block of cheese, it never seems to cut properly when it defrosts.

Hapless said 'I freeze eggs' How do you freeze eggs please and why
  • Brie or Camenbert are very good to freeze but they don't ripen once thawed so freeze them at the stage you like. Boiled spuds freeze well if you are going to roast them after - put them frozen into the hot fat - v ery handy at Christmas.

Now I like the frozen boiled spuds idea for roasties. I've never thought about a o/s method for these cheat roast potatoes that you can buy and of course cost a packet.

    Nice one............

I freeze boiled pots ready to roast. Also freeze baked jacket potatoes.

I chop a big bag of onions and portion up and freeze them too (raw). Saves stinking of onions for more than a day!! ;)
