Is it possible to freeze kiwi fruits please? I mainly want to use them for smoothies so if it makes them mushy, it won't matter.0

I freeze down the bones from roast joints and vegetable peelings until I have enough to make a really good stock. Great for a cheap soup bulked out with dumplings, you can also freeze down the jelly part of meat dripping to use in soups, just pour it off the pan let it cool, lift off the white dripping and keep in the fridge for roasting or frying and freeze down the brown jelly part. You can also freeze egg whites if you have used the yolks for something.0

You can also freeze meat drippings and things like lard, goose fat etc, although they keep for ages in the fridge too.0

I freeze lemon and limes once i have squished them for juice in a plastic box, when i have enough i then make marmalade.
fresh chillies - if on offer or reduced will buy them and freeze in a box if i dont have time to jam them, then as required chop whilst still frozen and use as required.
My biggest tip is to label everything you put in the freezer as there is nothing like opening what you think is mashed potato or stew and realising its stewed apple or something.
I tend to cook at weekends as tend to work long hours and freeze single portion lots of food, slice up the bread and freeze that so i can just fish out separate portions of food as required.
wish i was more organised wheere packed lunches are concerned.0 -
For labels use masking tape, cheaper than sticky labels
Got a question, well 2, I bought carrots to make a carrot cake but have ended up with not enough time and they are about to go funny, had to sling one, if I grate them then freeze then they'll be ok for a cake won't they ? Or will I need to blanche them/the grated bits.
Also cabbage, got a savoy but I am the only one who eats it, slice/portion and freeze as it is or blanche it ?One day I might be more organised...........

Hi lil_me,
I blanche everything because that's what my mum told me to do, but from reading posts on Old Style a lot of people don't bother with both carrots and cabbage.
Freezing carrots
Can I freeze savoy cabbage?

I'm going to freeze them whole I think reading that, not as if I will be grating them by hand and doubt it'll matter if they go a little squidgy as they are going in a cake.
Will get onto them now before I got to bed if I don't need to blanche them, fresher the better I suppose when freezing.
Thanks PW super thread finder as usualjust realised why my cabbage search failed, helps if I spell it right!

i read on here a lot about people freezing homemade muffins. i made some ham & cheese muffins from Tana Ramsay's book and it even said in there they could be frozen, but when i defrosted one it looked slightly blueish around the pieces of ham. i threw them all away as it didn't look right at all.
i've got a great recipe from this site for breakfast muffins and want to freeze them. they contain the usual muffin mix and then dates, pecans.... will these freeze/defrost ok?0
