who puts £500 in there purse?Chris, i've had 900 quid in my pocket a couple of times when my landlord has asked for rent in cash as he's had tradesmen to pay. I'm sure it's not that uncommon.
I've had £500 or a grand in my bra a few times, there is no way more than £200 would ever be in my purse/ pocket.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Do you have a credit union in your area? They may be able to loan you the money at a low interest rate.0

But your quote says,"This may include help with paying off arrears in some circumstances, although not if you were receiving enough housing benefit to pay all of your rent at the time the arrears built up. " so I suppose it depends on whether the OP was getting full HB at the time.0 -

I don't get this - how can you get a crime reference number when no crime has been committed? :think:0 -
Just to confirm a few bits of info which don't seem quite right if I can.
A DHP is a payment made to help you meet a shortfall in your rent if your LHA or HB doesn't cover the full charge. It can't be paid to help people if they are on full benefit or if they have lost their rent.
Also, if you are on Local Housing Allowance which is likely as you have just moved and your landlord would like to be paid in cash so unlikely to be a Housing Association, you don't get the option for it to be paid to him.
Perhaps set up a standing order from your account to his? Unless it states in the tenancy agreement that you have to pay in cash, I can't see that he can refuse money from you?I currently manage a Housing Benefit service and have been working in Housing / council tax benefit (as was) since 2001.

If you make any sort of report to the police they will give you a reference number, maybe this is what she means.
Usually for insurance purposes you have to report to the police if an item has been lost or stolen, therefore getting a crime reference number.Be who you are, say what you feel, those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind. They say that talking to yourself is a sign of mental illness. The only way you can 'claim' the money back is if you have cover on your home contents insurance! I specifically checked that my policy covered this after a spate of stolen handbags in my area! Mine covers up to £200 cash and £1000 possessions.
There is nothing else you can do to 'claim' it back, regardless of what the money was intended for I'm afraid! All you can do is try a crisis loan, or go to CAB and ask for advice, they may be able to negotiate with your landlord to pay the arrears off over a period of time?
To the posters asking about a crime reference number, this is the term used by police, it's just a reference number, required when making insurance claims. If the purse/wallet was lost, and it's not been handed in anywhere then its presumed stolen, hence a crime has taken place. Some insurance companies require a period of time to have lapsed before paying out, if the purse was mislaid/ stolen, rather than snatched!0 -
From bitter experience of my time as a Social Fund Officer a few years ago I can tell you that Crisis Loan payments for lost purses are as common as flowers in springtime.
The *ahem* error you made was saying that the payment was for rent which the Social Fund will not replace, although they might replace it if that money was intended to buy food, gas etc etc. But I suspect that it might be to late now as they would have taken a record of your original phone call
You could apply for a budgeting loan, there you are just applying for a amount of money, trouble is is that they are not particulary fastThe World come on.....0
