But she won't be homeless with a child if she doesn't get her money; that"s the point I'm making.0 -

Perhaps you should look further into this?
A discretionary housing payment can be paid to you if the council believes that you need further help with housing costs. This may include help with paying off arrears in some circumstances, although not if you were receiving enough housing benefit to pay all of your rent at the time the arrears built up.0 -

OP, did you try he police station and also other shops etc en route, just in case somebody found it and handed it in? Ok, I know it's a long shot but you never know - there are some honest people out there - OH found a wallet with £120 plus credit cards in it, on a train last week and he handed it in to British transport police (he's a strong believer in Karma!)0

Sorry OT but I so believe in Karma and would always hand in a purse or wallet, I know of someone who found a purse in a pub once and he spent some of the money first before handing it in to the bar he bought drinks with it more then he would have if he hadn't found the purse and drove home and got stopped by the police and got done for drinking and driving  point is if he handed the purse in straight away and not spent anything then it would never have happened, he wouldn't have had the money to spend on alcohol.0 -

Although it is not certain, it is well worth applying for. I have helped a client get the discretionary housing payment for similar circumstances, she lost her rent money and had gone to the police and got a crime reference number.
I assumed she was getting HB as a lone parent on IS.0 -
Maybe you could ring up the socal grant people again and say it is for something else, I'm sure they help with things like furniture ect if you have just moved or maybe appliances that have broken down.
As long as you do not say it is for rent specifically then you may be ok, just state that you have only just paid the rent and have no money for other items this month.
You will have to pay it back but it's definatly worth a try.:hello: Hiya, I'm single mom, avid moneysaver and freecycler, sometimes  but definatly0
