Some house insurance policies cover lost purses/wallets to a certain amount.

I don't think you can "claim" from anyone. You can apply for a crisis loan but this will have to be paid back.

Can you imagine how many claims the JC would have if they covered "lost/stolen" purses?

The state pay your income and pay your rent, your only responsibility here is to pay it!

Can you not arrange for your rent to be paid direct to the LL?

A few years ago i was in the bank getting my wages out.

left my purse at the desk, by the time i remembered it had gone and someone tried to use my card in the cash point in another branch.

When i asked for the cctv pictures for the police to look at i was told the cameras were broken, i had a crime reference number from the police, but nothing came of it.

Once member of staff took me to one side, made me a cuppa they could see i was distressed, and asked me what cards i had and did they want me to cancel them.

Bank manager came along and offered me the money that i had just lost, but i would be charged because in theory giving me that money in the bank account would be like letting me have an overdraft, i had to accept, as i had no other income and a small child to feed.

hi, ive phoned the crisis loan people and they have said they dont pay them out for rent! I dont mind paying it back.. they did say i could phone income support if i have a crime number and they may pay some money they may not.
And the landlord wants me to pay him in cash. thats want he wants it would be easy 4 me to just pay straight into his account.

This sounds a bit suspect to me, why is he insistent on cash?? Think you need to speak to him a.s.a.p. to either arrange for the rent to be paid to him directly or you pay him yourself by bank transfer only, that way if anything goes wrong with the payment you are not liable.

Have you checked your insurance to see if this is covered?

By the way, how can you have a crime number if you just lost the purse?

you get a crime number, if you lose anythink, and report it to the police.
a few years back i lose my phone and the insurance said i had to report it 2 the police before i got a new 1. So i phoned up about my purse, and they give me a crime number.
I have checked my house insurance and no its not covers, if it was 500 quid it would of been. thanks all, im just going to be behind with my rent!

That doesn't sound right to me OP. I would seriously phone and clarify.....you have nothing to lose.
