Abbey / Santander Faster Payments

Dear Milarky
It does not work with me. I have tried to send to the same account, even as low as 1.01 it still takes about working days to other accounts.
So it seems that it is unreliable.
ADINDASI've just sent £300 from A&L and £300 from Santander accounts by Faster Payment to first Direct.
The First time you make a payment that payment will go by BACS. This is their way of checking the account details
All subsequent payments to the same account will go as Faster Payments potentially (but must not exceed £300 currently or will go via BACS instead)0 -
I have been a member with A/L for quite a number of years and when they introduced Quick Transfer/Faster Payments I started using the system but was caught out a few times by the amount I was transferring.Too much in one go. So it went by BACS. When I enquired I was informed that the max was 250 pounds per day. I have scoured all their web pages to no avail to find that magic figure (max). Yesterday I emailed customerservices@santander.co.uk They don't even have this contact address on their website, asking to be notified the max. This they have replied and the max is 300 pounds (but not on the website). On the 8 Dec I transferred 250 to my HSBC which I have done several times to the sort code and Mandate in their data base everything normal it was there within the hour. Good! Yesterday I did exactly the same thing to HSBC and when I looked at my summary the words Faster Payment was not there. A/L say that if you have previously set up i.e. HSBC it will go automatic as they had done it the day previously I phoned them up today complaining about their service to be told by the staff that the Quick Transfer is not guaranteed same day service was this answer because it was a Friday afternoon?0

The faster payments site (ukpayments.org.uk) states for Santander(the old Abbey):
Max faster payment for
(a) One off payments = £300
(b) Standing Orders = £2000
I suggest you do yourself and your friend a favour. Get them to use a better bank. The Co-op Bank springs to mine or First Direct. Then it will be very unlikey either of you will have any banking troubles ( as long as you do not overdraw!). Good luck!0 -

No, nothing to do with it being a Friday afternoon - FP is supposed to be 24/7. But it is never a guaranteed thing, and that's especially true with Santander - there are certain limits and policies in place, but even within those, you'll find that payments sometimes don't go by FP.0 -
Hi All,
I'm with Alliance & Leicester / Santander and I'm getting mighty annoyed with their Faster Payments shambles.
I've got a standing order that goes from my A&L account over to my HSBC account to cover some DDs - I had some issues with this last year with it not going FP, however after speaking to someone on the phone they assured me it would be sent by FP from now on.
So since September last year my £200 Standing order has been going out on FP without problems, then all of a sudden, in february, it went by BACS instead.
AAAAARGH!! It caused my HSBC account to go overdrawn, and they charged me £25 for the privilege.
I've written a letter of complaint to Santander, asking for them to reimburse me for the £25 charge, but I'm not holding my breath.
If it weren't for the awesome overdraft facility A&L provide I'd be long gone I think - I left HSBC because of all the ridiculous charges, but A&L/Santander are getting as bad / worse than them!0 -
For transfer out from Santander to another account, Fp never works for me, so it takeas about 3-4 working days to arrive to another a/c.Hi All,

im looking to leave these cowboys as well because their failure to implement the FP system is criminal, have been waiting for them to join the scheme for a long time but I seriously think the have no intention whatsoever of providing it (the £250/£300 token FP service is laughable)0
-
I don't like Santander either - but I can't see how it's criminal. They've made a business decision (albeit a sightly odd one...) to stick to £250/300, and that is their choice.
There's no legislation which states banks MUST use Faster Payments.0 -
I made a faster payments bill payment via telephone banking last week. When I logged on to my online account today to make a regular bill payment I got a message saying it had been sent by faster payments. It seems that by using the service via telephone banking, it has been activated it on my online banking account, seems they are rolling it out slowly.
Another tip, when calling telephone banking, they will only active faster payments on bill payments you've made before. To get around this I set up a £1 payment to my new payee vie online banking, then called telephone banking and made a payment via faster payments service, and it worked.
It seems you have to work the system with Santander0 -
I've just had a bit of extra info from the Santander that might help, although it's unlike the policy of any bank I've dealt with:
Yes the faster payments limit is £300 per day (£10,000 for standing orders -see 'how do I', 'customer guides', 'faster payments' on their website), BUT it's not by calendar day, it's per 24 hours. So yesterday, I sent £300 by FP at 5pm, then tried again this morning, and it went va BACS. When I called them, they told me to waiit 24 hours and 1 minute after the previous payment. It's for my own safety, apparently! CRAZY?!0
