Hi all, after reading countless amounts of tips and advice on here, im now making my first post looking for some more help if you dont mind.

My question is regarding Faster Payments, and more importantly Abbey/Santander's part of this scheme.

Basically i recieve a large payment from a flat mate every month, which cannot be made before the 1st of each month, and i cant recieve it any later than the 2nd. As both our banks say they accept Faster Payments i agreed that the money should go via S.Order.

However after nearly 8 months of me not getting the money from his Abbey Account into my HSBC current account, im starting to get pretty annoyed and been tossed aside in the banks, on the phones and on the net.

Payments, of all sums, go from my HSBC account to his Abbey, no problem, within 1 hour. ALWAYS. Payments of below £100 go from his account to mine, also within 1 hour, ALWAYS (since 6 months ago). Payments larger than £250 and its 5 days.

Ive asked in Abbey, they said it was problems with my account, i checked with HSBC, they pointed me back at Abbey, they then said they dont offer faster payments at all (but the above info proves they do for small amounts), i rang their customer support and they said the amount MAY have something to do with it. So.....i asked a friend in HSBC, she assured me the problem is on Abbey's end, i would like to believe her more as she has no reason to lie to me, and actually researched the problem for me whilst i was there. Again, i went to Abbey and showed them the below web page, aswell as other official Faster Payment sites, they denied all knowledge again and told me to go back to HSBC

Anyway if anyone has any info on this could you please help as not getting this money quick enough is getting me in alot of trouble now, and Abbey just seem to find this amusing

Santander are a bit ropey in relation to Faster Payments.
    The official line is here
My advise is either use another bank or just get her/him to give you cash.

He would have to pay cash, change bank, or possibly make the payments by multiple standing orders under Santander's limit?

Heng Leng: thanks for the link

Its says that as of "9 March 2010" Santander UK plc DO accept Faster Payments, but with a limit at £250,....... so if the £250 limit above is right, i will be using that, ill post how it goes!

Iv alreayd lowered the amount to £500 payments, and will now be trying 4 payments of under £250 to see if that works/beats their filters!!

Ive also tried sending it to different accounts (other than HSBC) so im 99% sure its not any other banks fault except Abbey/Santander

Ill post how it goes, seen as payments of £1000 have not worked, £500, and £350 have not worked but $50 or less does. Would be nice for all to know their FP limits

That won't work either, You can only send 1 payment to the same beneficiary per day from Santander accounts.

and your correct, it is suppose to go by fasterpayment if its under £250 otherwise its just the normail bacs cycle.

Your problem has nothing to do with HSBC its all Santander.

I just sent 50p from my santander account to rbs, it didnt' go by fasterpayments. I've never had a payment go by fp from santander yet.

Do your friend a massive favour and strongly advise them to switch from the world's local circus to the world's local bank.:T

Ok well... we set up multiple payments of £180 and one payment of £82. I received one of the £180 payments, and also the £80 payment. But none of the rest. He set the Standing order for the 1st of the month, and i received it on the 1st, but I have yet to receive any of the other payments. LOL

    Santander are a joke!

I have an A&L current account with sort code 72-50-03 and a Santander current account with sort code 09-01-27.

According to the APACS sort code checker both accounts should have Fast Transfer.

The A&L account works for Fast Transfer to other fast transfer banks.

However it does not work with the Santander account. I contacted Santander and they told me they are not yet using Fast Transfer.

I have emailed www.ukpayments.org.uk/ to inform them that they are providing wrong information about Santander 09-01-27 current acccounts.

I await a reply from UKpayments.

Hve just messaged Egg re this. They claim to accept faster payments but this doesn't seem to be the case.Faster payments from A and L always work as do transfers between First Direct and HSBC. However faster payments from FD don't work and don't from Abbbey either.

Where does it say this? It says that a Santander standing order under £250 will be faster payments and that that sort code can have faster payments sent to it. It states that you cannot send a one off faster payment on Santander. In my experience that is correct information.

This is the information provided by the APACS Sort Code Checker.

    Type the sort code below:
    09 01 27

. Faster Payments can be sent to this sort code.
. Bacs Credit payments can be sent to this sort code.
. Bacs Direct Debits can be set up on this sort code.
. CHAPS Payments can be sentto this sort code.
    .
    Eligible for Cheques Credit Clearing.

Also the man from Santander he say No.
