Abbey / Santander Faster Payments

  • There seem's to be a little confusion here regarding Faster Payments (FP)....

The value limits that are displayed on the APACS website are the maximum transfer amounts for outward transactions, this has absolutely no influence on inward credits to an account.

For instance, the Santander limit of £300 is the limit set by Santander for external FP. It does not mean that £300 is the maximum that can be received using the FP service.

Further to this Santander currently send Standing Orders only on a consistent basis via FP, they offer a £300 FP option through telephone banking but to avail of this you must speak to an advisor and even then it is decided by the computer if this will be accepted or not.

Supposedly once the full integration/migration of A&L is completed, FP functionality will be increased but let's not hold our breath....

Hold breath for FP increase or full integration? :D

    adindas site is interesting:
    http://www.ukpayments.org.uk/faster_payments_service/value_limits/

Didn't realise A&L and Santander were different rates, not sure if my A&L [STRIKE]is[/STRIKE] was 250 or 300 (sorry for gloating having almost managed to close my account now).

Also find it odd that Standing Orders have higher rate than FP transfers, I factor in the 3 days for my Standing orders (and would continue to do so until I was sure was reliable method) but generally when make a transfer that's when I'd want it done quicker.
Santander are awful - mission in life is to warn people since 17-Sep-10, 18-Sep-10 realised one of thousands.

Glad I found this thread as I'm expecting a FP later this week for the sale of my car, thankfully as a Santander customer with an inbound payment due, it sounds like this should be ok. Quick question though, is there anything specific that needs to be done when using FP, or is it just the normal online payment process?

    Cheers

    Dear Tony
In my experience trying to use it several times (less than £10,000), it is just normal online payment.

Yu could check it the progess yourselver if you are the person who transfer it from the other end. It wil come in a minute.

I have tried a few times outbound transfer from Santander with a small amount of money. I can tell tell that it takes about 3 working days to reach the other non-Santander account.

Inbound Transfer seems to be fine.

Are Santander *ever* going to sort this out? As others have mentioned I can send FP to my Santander and A&L accounts fine, money is there pretty much instantly.

Every time I send money to *any* of my other accounts from Santander or A&L it goes BACS every time and takes 3-4 working days.

    What a joke.

I've just sent £300 from A&L and £300 from Santander accounts by Faster Payment to first Direct.

The First time you make a payment that payment will go by BACS. This is their way of checking the account details

All subsequent payments to the same account will go as Faster Payments potentially (but must not exceed £300 currently or will go via BACS instead)
.....under construction.... COVID is a [discontinued] scam

I'm afraid this is not totally correct, I have sent several payments below £250 to the same recipient on different days, where this was the only payment that day & on many occasions it is by BACS, the service seems intermittent at best.

I have never ever had any success with the Santander faster payment, whatever amount of payment I try (the payment can be as low as under £1), and they are all for repeated payments (despite the first time)!
