Even though they take a percentage, coinstar at asda has been a blessing to me - especially as I'm allergic to coin metal.

Anything under £1 goes in my cookie jar and are then banked in the emergency fund, and £2 coins get saved separately for nice treats (currently saving for a Vivienne Westwood suit).

So I only have pound coins in my purse.
 What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about?

    I have a large piggy bank that i throw all my 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p and 20ps in...couple of times a week.. then i bank them when i have a reasonable amount.

I keep all my £1 and 50p coins in my purse (£2s get changed with my mum cos shes saving them) i also keep 2 X 20p's 3 X10ps 2 X 5ps 2X2ps and 3 X1ps so i have some change available in shops so dont have to necessarily break into a £1 or 50p coin.

What I mean is, we have the £2 and 20p clubs.... does anyone routinely save every brass penny?

    I don't know where to stop! :D

All my 1's, 2's, 5's, 10's and 20's all get saved now. This website has saved me a fortune!

The coinstar machines may take a small fee but I still think that they are great! My bank wont take any change which is less that £10 so using the pennies helps at the end of month to get those bits and pieces from asda that you need.

Two or 3 times a week I empty my purse and I put all my 1ps, 2ps and 5ps in a giant coke bottle piggybank, 20ps go into my Smarties tube and £2 (when I get any!) will go into my piggybank.

As you can see from my signature, the collecting is going OK!

I use a pigsback piggybank and it holds 25 to 70 quid when full , though the latter was a lot of £1 and £ coins.

I have a full time job that involves checking ticket machines and often find 20p and 50p coins. i also have a hotspot where the lighting is poor so people drop small change and cant see it. Proftable in the winter months.

My part time job give sme tips so often end up with lots of 1p pieces and 20ps and 50ps. Last night I did £13 in tips and didnt have a coin abpve 50p. £1.50 of the smaller stuff went on carrots today the rest went in the piggybank.

When full , it gets bagged and taken to bank

I use 2 x clear Pigsback piggy banks (that cost me nothing) and one large Special Edition So-Co tin (Southern Comfort) as follows: All silvers into one piggybank, £2 and £1 coins into another piggybank and all coppers into So-Co tin. Then count them out when they're full and use for something special that we will remember, or put into savings.

Well done Ben 500 for instillng such saving techniques in your little 'un! :T

LynsayJane - I do the same thing as you - everytime I bank online I move little odds & sods pennies to savings - for example if I have 289.41, I will move £4.41 to savings with ICICI to be left with £285 in the current account.

You will be amazed for those who don't do this yet at how little you notice the money go out and it does soon add up... plus less coins to count up and you earn interest straight away! :T

I have also started to use Egg Money - last month from spending I earnt £2.61 in cashback and £0.10p interest - for nothing! At the end of the financial year with Egg (April I think) I expect to have earned around £40. :j

I've got a 3ltr Vladivar vodka bottle I got when I was working in a hotel bar and that is filling up with 1s,2s and 5s. Also 20ps go into a Pigsback piggybank. Though I have to say I find that far too handy for dipping into if I'm short of cash.... must get more willpower!
