Does anyone save all their loose change?

Options
What I mean is, we have the £2 and 20p clubs.... does anyone routinely save every brass penny?

I don't know where to stop! :D

  • I put my 5ps in a Jack Daniel's bottle (after consuming the contents of course) and my 1s and 2s in a Cadbury's Roses tin. I did discover that Mr A had been stashing £1 coins, and found about 33 quid - however that soon went.

Small change (copper) really bugs me - it weighs so much and takes up too much room in my purse, so I try to spend it by giving people the right change in shops where possible. If I can't spend it I put it in a charity collection when it starts to build up. I'm just too lazy to sit and count it and bag it up for the bank, so saving it isn't the right option for me. It might be good if you've got kids to bribe though, they like counting money!

  • Having a tin of coppers comes in right handy at holiday time, [STRIKE]me and Mr A[/STRIKE] the kids love the 2p machines and I always have bags full ready for them, instead of having to change real money in the arcade.

I empty my purse of 5p, 2p and 1p's every morning and put it in my 'shopping fund' piggy bank. Every few months when it gets full I count it out and change it for £1 coins, which then go in my 'diamonds fund' piggy bank. I've got about £30 in there at the moment. When I was at Uni it paid for my hair to be done for formal dinners and balls, I'm not sure what I'm going to spend it on now.

1p-20ps go into a huge empty whisky bottle which will hold £300-400 when full. I usually bag it up every few months and pay it into the bank.
The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.

I save all the money I find lying around and to my shame I pick up any money I find lying on the ground. I work in a school and I am always finding 1ps and 2ps on the floor. I pick them up and put them all in my savings bag and when there's enough I bag it up and put it into my Christmas savings account.

Yep me! I save up all my 1p,2p.5p and 10p coins in a wee money box then when its full I take it asda to one of the coinstar machines and get it changed over! I then either use it for some shopping or get it changed into cash at the checkout!

Everything less than £1 gets thrown in a tin at the end of the day. Full, it'll probably hold £300-ish, but I don't let it get full any more, not while I could be getting interest on it. Banked £81.00 yesterday. :j
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

the coinstar machines take 7.9 pence in every pound for counting those pennies. Far too much of a rip off for my liking.

I try and save spare change because its bulky - I've got a couple of little money boxes lying around that I try to feed every so often. It does soon add up.

Its the old look after the pennies and the pounds will take care of themselves.
It takes no effort to bag them up and bank them.
