Because as you drive alongside your driveway you can check what is in there and you still have a good view of the road before you swing your front end out.

In the morning when you drive out, again you have a good view of the road before you pull out into it.

In addition to all that, providing you've lined up the back end of your car roughly in the right place, you can swing the front end about as much as you want to get it perfectly positioned as there wont be a pair of gateposts restricting your movement, the back end will stay where it is. This means there is much less shuffling involved if you did line up poorly and reduces the risk of you scraping the side against the gatepost.

If you are unfortunate enough to live on a main road, people are also much more likely to let you out in the morning if you drive out forwards as you'll be out 3 times as fast.

So pretty much the same reasons as why it's better to reverse into a parking space. It's getting increasingly important these days as modern cars tend to have worse rear visibility than older ones.

Finally, if you have a bollard, you'll see it in the morning before you drive into it :P

    Please explain why?

Oh come on, surely you don't have to ask that?

However doing it is another matter.

I live about 20yds from the top of a very steep hill which then turns sharply away and down, ie, no view of traffic approaching. There are double whites down the centre of the road for another 50yds from my drive. Reversing out is dangerous, BUT, when I try to stop and reverse in almost every time the idiot following will drive straight up my backside, stopping me reversing, or even drive around me over the top of the hill,,
and yes I do signal clearly, I've even tried putting on the hazards as I pull up but that only triggers a pass.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

I was actually being facetious but it seems to have backfired on me!:D

Like many others here, I live on a housing estate with unobstructed views from my 'drive'. It doesn't matter a jot whether I reverse onto it or not. I thought 'generally' a good idea was too general. There's the pedant in me I suppose.

Or, to put it another way, being awkward for no reason.

    hahaha! No worries :D

I was fully aware that the bollard didn't go down when I posted that pic, I just wasn't too arsed about searching for one that did, as I knew the prices would be similar, and they were :)
