Asking on behalf of third party....
If you placed a bollard (metal/hinged type) on your own drive way to stop others from parking upon it, is there a legal requirement to paint it reflective colours?
Many thanks

I don't think so - but if the public can obtain access to the place (a dropped kerb outside, for instance) then I believe the land owner is responsible for the welfare of those who choose to access the property.
If Joe Bloggs ran into the bollard at night because it was painted black, and was simply using the drive to turn around, then I believe the land owner/occupier would be at least partially responsible for the damages caused. The quickest way to become a millionaire is start off as a billionaire and go into the airline business.

Rubbish - Joe Bloggs should not be using a private drive to turn around, so tough luck! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

If it adjoins the Public Highway, there may be specific rules to adhere to. You will need to contact your local Highways department, usually part of the County Council. In some areas, they may refer you back to the local planning department.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
Would you paint a gate or brick wall in reflective paint ?0

In our previous property we had a double width drop kerb for entry to both our neighbours gateway and our own which were set back from the highway, our neighbour had put a bollard in the middle as he was fed up of people using it as a turning space, as it was on our land we were told there was no need to notify anyone.0

I dont follow. Gates and walls adjoin almost every road and footpath in the country and they are considerably bigger than a slender bollard.
I reckon the OP should check with the highways department but I reckon if its within your land then its entirely your decision.0 -
surely if someone hits your bollard on your property then you could claim the damage they caused to your bollard or driveway?
but we all know that makes too much common sense for any judge in this country to understand....work permit granted!0 -
Put a spike strip across it, that should stop them.:D0

Why the problem with people turning in drives? It's hardly worth worrying about is it?
I can just imagine your typical Sunday afternoon...............getting all of a lather because an unknown driver had the temerity to place some rubber on your drive for all of 5seconds and all he wanted to do was go in the opposite direction...........surprised you haven't got your shotgun out yet......that will teach the *!*"!**.
