I think that's very true 8sider. same as when you put your dressing gown on, the day is done, no more housework.0

It's been interesting reading on this thread about people's reasons (practical and purely aesthetic) for choosing particular apron designs.
Of all the things I do in the kitchen, the one that seems to need the most protection is washing up. Almost everything else that happens in there seems to lead to washing up eventually!
It's simpler if every apron I own can basically stand up to the worst I'm ever likely to throw at it. If it comes down far enough to touch my knees, and I've got shoes on in case anything drips off the bottom, that pretty much covers it.
I just thought actually - wet stuff running down and off the bottom being such a common problem with the plastic-coated aprons... Maybe you could have a little removeable strip of cloth/towel/whatever along the bottom that soaks it all up. When that gets dirty you just stick it in the washing machine...0 -

I reckoned I should put this to the test, so I found a small tea towel, folded it in half to make a long narrow rectangle and fixed it along the bottom of the front of an apron with clothes pegs.
It did seem to catch any reasonable amount of water that ran down onto it. But in any place where the towel wasn't quite close enough to touch the apron's plastic coating, the water rolled straight down and off the bottom as usual. So attaching the thing properly is definitely still a problem...0 -
Well, that last one was definitely Not An Invention but 6 months later I've had a bit more luck with something else...
It was a bit of a pain to listen to podcasts or downloaded music in the kitchen - not having the right kind of sound system in there. If I've got an apron on, that covers up all the best pockets in my clothes where I'd want to put an iPod or whatever.
I had some material left over from making this apron, so I rigged up a pocket that'll easily take an iPod or can just about manage my phone.
There's a layer of rigid plastic inside, along the top, which holds a loop of wire sticking out each end. The wire goes through the eyelets and holds the whole thing in place on the back side of the apron, where even I can't manage to spill washing up water on it! The plastic is just bendy enough to let you pull the whole thing off whenever you don't actually want the pocket.
After a little bit of use, it seems to be doing OK. No signs yet of anything falling off or my phone getting dropped...
[I had photos and everything for this, but it wouldn't let me include them, because I haven't posted many times. Sorry you're not able to see those...]0 -

Lol, don't use FaceTime/Skype but am always being caught answering the door wearing mine. My DD's boyfriends dad thinks I live in the kitchen cooking as everytime he knocks on the door to pick his Son up I am wearing my apron!0 -
I opened the door to the gas & electric meter reader the other day...she asked if I was baking (I was) and what I was making
I have 2 that I wear alternately when cooking, one my kids bought me about 15 years ago, and another from DH on our "cotton" anniversary with my married name on2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Nope! I do not wear an apron.
I do often take my jumper off in winter instead of rolling up the sleeves.
If I get the frying pan out I do look to consider what I am wearing. something nice and I go swap it for an old t.shirt.
That frying pan splashes oil up sometimes. The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -
I wear a boilersuit when i;m fixing the car. Does that count ?Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

Never an apron - apart form Xmas day when I have a nice red and white one for cooking the dinner and a hat to match!
My mum always wore those nylon overalls that covered most of you.
I think the trend for selling and buying pretty retro aprons could be the liking for tea parties etc and anything kitschGreat opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0
