I have 3 tabard style aprons (did have 4, but sent 1 to charity shop during my decluttering), however I don't use them much, although I was always wearing one when my DS was a baby.

I think I will make it a new year's resolution to start wearing one again, as I splashed oil on one of my best jumpers on Christmas day, and I don't know if I'll be able to get the stains out, I've just given it a second wash, but not checked yet if the stains have gone!

Yes, I use my oilcloth type one for baking and messy cooking.
I use my cloth ones for cleaning, not just to protect my clothes but somehow being dressed for the task makes me more commited to it and I seem to get more done when wearing it.

  • I love my apron! It's a retro style floral one and my husband laughs at me in it but it saves me from lots of splashes and spills, and yes flour down my front if I'm baking.

I wouldn't spend much money on one as they're very easy to make (basic style) if you have a sewing machine, but that's up to you.

Aprons are really easy to make from just about any scrap of material, don;t waste your Christmas money, make yourself one.

Here's how to make one from a pillowcase, but there are loads of on-line tutorials.

  • Yes I have always used an apron when baking or cooking and I prefer the full bib type as opposed to the half sized waist dowards ones. But then I am an old fashioned sort of person who likes to feel dressed for the job :):)
  • Yes, I got a lovely flowery one from
Asda reduced to £2! I love it. It has a pocket on the front and I clip a tea towel to it using a clothes peg so I have something to wipe my hands on.

Yes I have several, don't feel dressed for work unless I'm wearing one, full bib chef type and looking at the stains on them I couldn't do without one!!!

  • I have 2, both waterproof as I'm always getting drenched when I do the washing up, and often splash food etc on myself! :o
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.
