My mum gave me and Mr. Panpipe some 'his and hers' aprons for Christmas! They have our names on them with a picture of a conductor (the orchestral kind - we are both musicians); mine has underneath "I lead you follow" and his has "You lead I'll follow". Pretty much sums up our kitchen exploits!Life must be lived forwards, but can only be understood backwards - Kierkegaard0

Mine is an old PVC one, I think my mum gave me it, my mum has had several of them over the years (no idea where they originated from) she does have a few vintage material ones of my grandmothers, but they are rarely worn (I think they're so pretty I'd worry about getting them all stained)!.
I never forget mine because I know how messy I am so it is must for me. My wife often forgets hers when she is cooking until she splashes tomato down her new top.0 -
I wear an apron when im baking cakes, I have one of those that goes ober your head and it ties back behind you. I always wear it in case I spill and flour on me.0

If I didn't have two aprons (hanging on the back of the kitchen door), we'd get covered in flour and tomato sauce most nights! Even now that I'm using the BM, I still cover myself and everything around in a light dusting of flour, and an apron staves off the washing machine for another day. You can wipe your hands on it without worrying, and my red one (charity shop yeeeeeers ago) has a nice big pocket for Stuff.
My second one is a Laithwaites free gift one that was my late grandfather's, and I'm glad we kept it; everytime we went round for a sunday lunch or a visit, he would be wearing it to finish off cooking our meal, while we were made to sit down with our drinks and be waited on! He was still serving us occasional dinners at 91.
I am making another from denim (nice and hardwearing for gardening, etc) but have run out of scraps for the straps. I'm not surprised vintage ones are selling well - there's been a retreat into the kitchen somewhat recently, and a nice retro apron completes the look - alongside a plate of on-trend cupcakes, naturally0 -
I'm afraid I don't wear an apron, ever. I used to, years ago, but my hands don't do so well at tying the strings, and I spent more time picking it up off the floor and retying it than actually wearing it.
Mr LW has a big PVC apron for marmalade making, (marmalade can be like napalm when it gets close to setting point) but that's too big, cumbersome and uncomfortable for me.
I do wear sleeve protectors though, as a lot of my tops have fancy dangly bits on the sleeves, and the sleeve protectors keep them away from the gas ring when I'm cooking.
I also keep a bar towel on the back of the chair I sit on to cook/wash up/etc, which is what I use for a quick wipe of the hands during cooking, and then chuck in the wash bin.If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
I am so pleased. My lovely Mum brought me two nice thick cotton aprons on Mother's Day with a retro print on. She found them in the charity shop and they're nicely worn in0

i used to wear chefs aprons and chefs whites when i was working ,
i would love to wear one now but being of the larger breasted variety lol i usually find the bib type ones slip and i am wondering about with it just covering one boob lol .
i might try making one of my own and make the bib part at the top wider .
has anyone tried to do this ? and would it work0 -
I have a couple of aprons (cheeky gifts) but never use them. I just change into old clothes, a top and leggings, and do my chores like that.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0
