I think I will have a shower this morning, but a soak in the bath when I have finished today's painting.

I will take a break part way through the day and walk down to get a newspaper for the cafe rouge voucher too - thank you for pointing that out.....it is a thread I should visit more often.

10ps only on scratches, but banking shows £37.17 profit in from bets and scratches, so that will be shortly going over to the pot.

I am saving for a new PC - to go into my office. The old PC, at 10 years old, finally has gone to the place that all worn out PCs go. I am pleased at how long it did last, but I need a PC in the new study, in order to do "proper" work.......so I will have a new pot for that and some of my MSE money can go towards it, on the basis that in turn, the PC will allow me to earn more money :D

Just got matched betting to do, but may have another coffee before I do so, just to make sure my brain is not quite asleep as it feels right now!

    Yes Hypno, have the coffee.

Have you stopped the Dooyoo, it is not much money but it does gather up?

    Have a good day.

hi elliemoo - coffee almost done, and 2 qualifying matched bets also done, so I am getting up to speed! Not too much to be made on them this weekend, but of course every little helps!

I also have a mystery shop that I did by post, to input sometime this weekend, but I'd quite like to get that out of the way during the course of the day.

I'm not doing dooyoo - I found that I spent so much time reading and clicking, that it was in danger of causing me a problem because I found myself doing so at work......"oh I'll just read and click on 10 reviews" etc easily leads to spending too much time not doing my own work!

I am having a bit of a "shift" in thought - hence the making of a home office and saving for a new PC.

I am the only female doing what I do at my place of work - I am the only one who has responsibility for the family too. I know that DS is very good at cooking dinner, but I still have to do all the usual "Mum stuff". The other guys all have wives at home, who don't work, and who can dedictate their time to having the house nice and dinner ready on the table, with their shirts pressed ready for the next day.

That means that my colleagues can all work hours as long as are needed in order to earn the maximum amount. Because when they get home tired and worn out, they don't have to find the energy to help with maths homework or remembering that you need to buy bread for tomorrow's packed lunches.

I can't do that - so I really do believe that my earnings are less as a result. I don't have a problem with that and am not saying that it isn't fair, but it is a fact of the environment and the career we have chosen to work in.

I do get to my desk an hour early, and I rarely take lunchbreaks, but that is no different to any of the others, so I am not "gaining" anything there.

SO.....by having a home office, I am hoping that I can bring home work with me, and instead of doing an hour or two of dooyoo clicks, or whatever, I can do an hour or two (not every day) of "real" work.

This in turn will hopefully show in my figures, and when it is time for pay reviews and bonus calculations, I have more chance of being "up there" with the guys.

So - whilst I do not feel the pressure to work from home, and I must emphasise that no one in the office would ever expect it of me, they are happy enough with what I do already, I do feel that it would be a very workable way of maximising my earnings potential.

Does that sound reasonable? I hope so!!

Also, if I bring some work home, I might not feel so stressed at work as I try to work to my deadlines!

I don't envisage working every evening, late into the night, or anything like that, but I do reckon it is my best chance to increase earnings, or at the very least to protect my position, and with there only being me in the house with the ability to earn money, I have to be realistic and remember that there is no other salary coming in.

So, on that note, I am going to put the kettle on again, go and have a shower and put my painting clothes on, and get making that fabby office :D

I am also full of a cold.....typical *wheres that flippin roll eyes smiley when you need it?*

Ah, yes, the "end of term" cold as it is known in the teaching profession.... people spend so much time thinking got to carry on, got to carry on, just a little while longer.... Then, when the pressure lifts, your body says "right, now will you blooming well stop!" and tries to make you stop by letting in a cold virus:rotfl:

Head over a bowl of boiling water with towel over head will help ease the congestion and clean out the !!!!. Sprinkle in a bit of rosemary if you have it. (Says one who's had sinus probs for a few years longer than she cares to think about...:D)

I have showered, so I feel a little more human again :D

I've placed one free bet - its on the boxing which I have never done before, so hopefully that goes according to plan, but it is just over £4 profit, so better than a kick in the teeth (or a punch to the nose!).

So, now time to go and paint my ceiling.......back in a bit!

    Morning Hypno and friends

I think it sounds perfectly reasonable to work at home - I do it in the evenings myself. From experience, I find it harder to re-start work when I have come home and seen to the kids/house/washing etc and am in "home" mode and often wish I could stay an hour later in the office while I'm on a roll.

I know your employers don't put pressure on you, but it is sad that in this day and age, that women have to accept that we can't have it all and despite working incredibly hard to keep all plates spinning - that is still not quite good enough......

However, it will be nice to have a dedicated work space, so it doesn't invade your home and will make you more productive. Sounds like you've made good progress so far, I'm sure it will look great this time on Tuesday :)

BTW, could your "cold" perhaps be allergic rhinitis brought on by dust / wood particles? I often get that if I'm on a mission, just a thought - have a good day x

Hypno, your plan to do work related to your professional life at home, so that your office performance improves and you end up with higher pay at work makes absolute sense to me - you have the potential for higher earnings through bonuses and pay increases, and thats much more than dooyoo or anything like it.

I'm a bit concerned that you're carrying on with the physical work when you've got a cold - like shortbird said, its often about the body saying "now blooming well stop!" - OTOH, I know how much you want that office. Just don't frazzle yourself down too much, okay?

EDIT Ooh, I kind of crossposted with macgirl - allergic rhinitis from the dust in the air is a distinct possibility.

My nose has stopped running, so wood dust it is! I have no time for a cold - I am a woman on a mission!

I've stopped for coffee - the ceiling is just over half done. I will certainly be able to finish that part of the job today keeping me on target.

I then need to decide what to do for the walls - they are currently lilac, as was appropriate for DD when she move in there aged 9, and the common sense thing is to give it a coat in the same colour, as I have leftover paint available to me, and it will only need one coat rather than two (except the bits behind the old wardrobe which will need two) so it will take far less time than doing a "new" colour which will almost certainly need two coats.

Thing is, lilac doesn't really do it for me as an office.....but then neither do the other colours that I have as "leftovers". There is nothing wrong with any of them, but they just don't do it for me! I have some lovely, darker-side-of-mid-blue paint that DS has chosen for his room (when he gets it tidy!) but I think the study is too small for such a colour......perhaps I shall start with that, and I can always do a white wall to lighten it up and offset the darker colour.

What I don't want to do is to go and spend money on new paint when I have got plenty here. Nor do I want to drag the job on for any longer than I need.

    hmmmmm.....

  • Happy Easter Hypno, decorating and all! And your home office/home working plan is eminently sensible, as it will/has potential to bring in far more than the MSE stuff (though of course you are the queen of all that anyway....)
