Hypno could you mix any of the leftovers to make a new colour? perhaps add white to the blue to make it paler?
xxxNevertheless she persisted.0 -
Off-setting a darker wall with a light one sounds like a good plan. Maybe poner it some more once the ceiling is done & you can have a good look at it? I can understand you not wanting to buy more paint but it would be pointless to paint it in colours you don't like as you won't want to be in there & it will always irritate you, IYSWIM

I would be in danger of not mixing enough, and then trying desperately to get the same shade again - and failing, so ending up with patchwork walls
I have some pictures that my Dad had, which I have been storing - I have been thinking about putting them up in the study when it is done, so when I have done the ceiling, I will go and retrieve the pictures and see what colour will be best with them.......
I will probably stick with the lilac - once it is all clean and fresh, it will be perfectly fine....at the moment with polyfilla and bare plaster in places, with a half painted ceiling, it doesn't really give a true picture of how it will ultimately look!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Yes, although I could never imagine life without daily scratches or checking for mystery shops and surveys :rotfl:
Seriously, though, maximising my earnings potential has to be the thing to do. Not only does it have the possibility of resulting in greater security by way of monthly wages, but also when I do come to move, I will have better chance of getting a mortgage etc if I can show them what I can earn.
When I worked in my cabin in the garden, I found it very easy to switch into "work mode" when I went out there, so am hoping that a dedicated study will do the same in the house. The cabin will then become the place for the kids to hang out in the summer....the air hockey table can go up and they can have a bit of a chill out space for themselves and their friends.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. I'm liking your plan. Our office has to double as spare room with a bed settee. We have 2 computers which probably seems extravagant but to be honest I don't know how we coped with 1 as it has been a blessing when we are doing our ebay shop. Our oldest computer is on its last legs too and we are hoping to replace soon. I would love a laptop but fear it would get damaged. Sorry for the long post, you may leave and finish your painting.

Hypno, if lilac is not your thing why not use the dark blue if there's enough of it? It will be more atmospheric and serious, therefore more conducive to work......
I think it's a myth that dark colours make rooms smaller and you could always put up a pin board and pin up all the lovely houses you'll be able to afford with your lucrative extra work0 -
Hi Hypno,
Well done on prioritising your time & effort.
I'd probably got for 3 white or lilac and one dark blue wall. But youngest DS liked colour, so in one house he had white cornice and skirting, but the ceiling and 4 walls were 5 diffent colours, so you could try something like that:)
My priority with rooms is light & lighting, especially if it's a room to work in. I use a lot of mirrors to reflect the light.
Anyway, just got back from sightseeing in Lucerne, we walked by the river and old bridges, around the old city walls, and then back through the old town, it was really nice, and the weather was gorgeous. Need to prioritise sightseeing before we come back, it would be a pity to waste the opportunity.0 -
I think the new money making idea is very sensible and makes perfect sense. I would think seriously about the colour of the room though. I managed to decorate my dining room exactly as I wanted it and then due to circumstances I haven't yet been able to redecorate the living room and I get really shocked at how different I feel going from one room to another. It only dawned on me recently how I get a lift from the one and a positive downshift in mood when I go in the other. Needless to say I'm trying to save to get it done.
So I think that if you really don't like the colours you have, you are more than justified in getting some paint, because as someone else said you don't want to end up avoiding the room when long term it can be such an asset to your money making.0 -
Lucerne sounds lovely - it is hailing here - happy bank holiday weekend!
I've done the ceiling - it seemed to go on for ever! Think tardis, and you won't be far wrong!
I've got the pictures out, but they are better suited to my dining room, so I will store them again until such time as I decorate the dining room, and will put them up there. I will find something else to hang in the study.
I got the lilac out, but there isn't enough to do the whole room again, so that has made up my mind there.
The dark blue is nice, but there is a tall tree right outside the window, that in summer when it is in full leaf, cuts out a lot of natural light. As I don't like artificial light to work by, I would rather keep the room lightish. Also I bought the blue paint for DS room, so will stick with the original plan and use the blue in his room.
I do have a full tin of paint that is the same colour as my dining room currently is - a sort of biscuit colour......not peach, not beige, but that sort of "depth" which will be light enough, but still warm enough I think. I do love the colour as it is in my dining room, and it is the room beneath the one I am decorating, so in terms of light coming in from the window, I know how it "reacts".
Once I am working in there, if it really doesn't work for me, I will go and buy more paint, but I really don't want to spend money at this stage if I can possibly help it.......my lounge, when that gets decorated, is going to take up a fair amount of cash so will save my decorating budget (such as it is) for that!
Also, I will need a new carpet in the study - the old one only went up as far as the wardrobes, and is bright pink, so I need one that is both neutral in colour, and goes all the way up to the walls, so I will be looking out for a remnant for that over the next few months.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground.
