yes, i knew it would in the London Gazette but I wasnt told the details of my br would be to easily available through a google search. I would have thought it was more like the Insolvency Website where you actually have to go to the site and search from there - its the immediate availability of this info through a google search that bothers me, not that its in the Gazette (although, that it should be there forever I dont think is right or fair - we are treated like criminals).
I am not being funny or anything but who in reality will be googling your or for that matter anyones name?:pB&SC No. 298

These days people are known to google potential dates, increasingly large companies are doing google/internet searches on prospective employees and also if you own a business or are self employed and the company name includes your name, i.e 'John Doe Motor Supplies' then anybody googling your business is effectively googling your name.
Calm down, and don`t take such an aggressive attitude, all I asked was a what I thought a relevant question. How many people on here had googled themselves before this post started. When I went BR I knew the implications but I was and am prepared to live with them. If an employer is so concerned about you being BR, then I am sure that question would arise in any interview/application, where by law you have to tell them anyway.:pB&SC No. 298

Actually I think that Bat raises a good argument that the IS website is opening an unecessary security breach of personal information....not just for the BR person but for others that reside in the same household. I will admit that I was able to get names & addresses of BR people in my street!! I found that to be very disturbing!
Under the DPA 1998 companies & organisations are required to store personal data `securely` . So why is a government department allowed to offer free access to all to such senstive personal financial matters?.
I have always thought that to be wrong & where I agree access should be available to those organisations that require it....ie Equifax, Experian & the finance houses & Banks (ie a credit search!) ...why should it be freely available to Joe (nosey neighbour) Bloggs who is sat at his computer digging the dirt ?!
Sorry guys for my little rant ...I just find it plain wrong. The Government bring in a law to cover confidentiality & then blatantly go & put personal data online!!
Rant over..I`m going for a lie down.:o:o0 -
Because the DPA is not a coverall which says that nobody is allowed to know anything about you, it is one of the most misunderstood pieces of legislation. What it is meant to do is to classify the information and decide who has access to what, not just to deny all information flow. There are many exemptions in the DPA, one of which is to allow the release of information where it is required by any other Act of Parliment. Therefore because the IA1986 requires that it be published this is allowed.Hi, im Debtinfo, i am an ex insolvency examiner and over the years have personally dealt with thousands of bankruptcy cases.

How many people on here had googled themselves before this post started. Me for one - and often!
And I google other people too for various reasons; some I want to avoid, some I want them to avoid me and so on. When I used to interview people I was googling them all the time (although to be fair, this was few years ago; there is far more information out there now). And facebooking too.
I don't google everyone I met; I'm not OCD about it. But in a lot of context's there is a need, I feel, for checking up on someone. Or rather not checking up, but checking out. Like the person who applied for a job claiming they had been travelling for the previous year but turned out they had lied about being in prison. And I am now a single Mum, but with kids at home I would be checking out someone to the best of my ability (should I be able to, and on the off chance I find a Mr.!!)
People leave far more information than they intend to. I realised this a few years ago when I put my own name to a couple of reviews I put only; they still come up now when I google myself. I don't leave my real name anymore and I am seriously considering changing my name via deed poll now.
Perhaps to Miss Dee Meanour upon my divorce????!!! But in all likelihood to something incredibly simply like Sally Smith; something I can hide behind.

Remember the OR probably googles you as well, there is often usefull info for the OR there, especially if someone was a trader and wanted to be known at some pointHi, im Debtinfo, i am an ex insolvency examiner and over the years have personally dealt with thousands of bankruptcy cases.

I appreciate that DI & thankyou for the clarification. I know that IS/Gazette is a DPA exception however I do think that the accessibility of the web & the extent to which that data could be used is dangerous...especially the address detail.
I come from a banking background where even the slightest hint of financial `information disclosure` is a serious offence & can result in prison. Thats why I find it so strange that something as serious as BR can just be published as it is on the web. (gosh I miss the `confused` smilie)
LOL Skylight....I have googled me & I`m a Chairman of a multinational company in the States & a successful artist:rotfl::rotfl:...all namesakes of course....I quite like the deed poll idea though.0 -
It would be interesting to know, the people on here that have been bankrupt for a long time for instance 3 years from the bankruptcy date, If they google themselves now does it still come up or does it get archived at any point and so you would have t go to the Gazette site to find outHi, im Debtinfo, i am an ex insolvency examiner and over the years have personally dealt with thousands of bankruptcy cases.
