Rumours are that Stamp Duty is going to only kick in on transactions over £250,000!
For first time buyers only.0 -
If this happens, when would it apply from?0

If it doesn't happen, when would it not apply from?0

I know it's unlikely (haven't seen anything mentioned on this so far), but will this affect stamp duty rates on properties above 250k? Completing on April 1st so a little April Fools' present would be nice!0

For first time buyers only? How on earth will they police that?
What is the definition of a first time buyer?
What if you sell your house, move into rented for 6 months and then buy another house?0 -
Shiny suits taste good, nomnomnom. How can it be just for FTBs though? As RLH says, how will they police it? Confused.Scar tissue that I wish you saw, sarcastic mister know it all, close your eyes and I'll kiss you cause with the birds I'll share this lonely view.0

Just called my solicitor and asked exactly that question. We have each owned in the past but neither of us has since Feb 2009; we've rented since and it's taken us till now to find a place to buy. We are now buying a £231k property.
She thinks (she hasn't had the full rules through yet) we'll still have to pay. She reckons it'll exclude anyone who has ever completed on the purchase of a property (and apparently they can check that out).0
