Does this apply if I have only bought an ex-council property in the past.

Oof-it looks like it applies to ANY property purchase ANYWHERE in the whole wide world. No mention of ex-council. Not sure why that would make it exempt anyway?
Scar tissue that I wish you saw, sarcastic mister know it all, close your eyes and I'll kiss you cause with the birds I'll share this lonely view.

Listening to Darling at the moment and I'm sure he said it will start from midnight tonight. My house is on sale and asking price is just under 130,000 so hoping that I get an offer over 125,000 now!

Stamp duty isn't payable in large areas of the country anyway - the deprived areas, on propertys under 150

Well whenever you check the latest house price sales in the past there is no mention of properties that have been bought from the council, so it makes me think there is no way of checking.
  • Quick question please.....

Ive already paid my solicitor in full (including stamp duty) but i am still waiting for exchange of contract .

Am i entitled to the money back regarding SD as no funds have been transferred to the sellers as yet??

    Thanks

Just had a call from sister's boyfriend - he wanted to make sure this was real because they're due to exchange v soon. Jammy b*stards - they only looked at three houses, got a very low offer on the one they wanted and now this - compared to my months of searching and everything almost falling apart multiple times and then paying 2 grand to the government for the priviledge they've had a hugely smooth ride.

At least they can afford to buy us a nice wedding present now... Haha. Good luck to all FTBs I hope this helps a lot of you out x

Would expect so as Stamp Duty is payable once the house is registered... So after the sale. Am I right? Best idea is to ring your solicitor and ask.

Pants, were hoping to exchange soon on a £249k house but we wont be entitled to this stamp duty exemption as we have bought a house before years ago but are now renting...

    Bah stoopid labour!
