,its not a proper credit card it is a credit building card,to basically give you credit history on your credit file so when applying for further credit they can see you are responsible...

You are either a troll or quite ignorant, Vanquis offer a standard Visa Credit card (albeit at a higher than usual rate).

A "credit building card" is offered by CashPlus, and even though it looks like a Visa Credit card, it is a prepaid card - http://www.mycreditbuilder.co.uk/

    Can you tell the difference?

There's a fine line between dictating and offering assistance, and an easy one to walk or cross without realising or meaning it.

You know what I mean, I shan't say more

D123 you are an other one who aint got a clue, you phone up vanquis and say to them hi there just wondering if your vanquis credit card is a credit building card,or a proper credit card,he will say you can use it like a proper credit card but we issue these cards as credit building cards hence the apr's on them!!! basically if you have a vanquis card in your wallet people know you have not been trusted in the past with money...

you vanquis card holders talking about i want bigger credit limits on the card, you are mad stick to your limit which they first give you and if they give you a higher limit ask for that to be lowered, the vanquis credit card is not like any other decent credit card, its not a proper credit card it is a credit building card,to basically give you credit history on your credit file so when applying for further credit they can see you are responsible....just spend a tiny bit on this card each month for a year get your greens on your report then rip the card up call them up and say thanks but see you later i"m off to a proper card...
    [/QUOTE]

What makes you think you are so knowledgeable on the subject? Why on earth would spending a tiny bit for the green zeros be any better than using the full amount when needed?

I spend close to my limit most months and haven't been charged a penny in interest (well legitimately - every now and again they put a £1 minimum finance charge on for no apparent reason) and have exactly the same green zeros as someone would by only spending a little. How is that possibly a bad thing?
  • i have totally no knowledge of vanquis and i mean i dont, but come on to charge someone 69% apr even if you are paying in full every month still takes the !!!!..

Not if you think about who they offer cards to.

They were the only card provider to give me credit after I was discharged from Bankruptcy. Without them I would have had to wait years before anyone else gave me the time of day but because Vanquis allowed me to start rebuilding my credit right from the beginning I was able to start the climb back up the credit ladder much sooner.

The APR is high because they lend to people that have such bad credit histories that they wouldn't qualify for a Capital One Classic or Aqua Card. It has to be this high to offset the risk of lending in this category.

It takes the !!!! if you have the ability to get a better rate elsewhere but the whole point of having a Vanquis card is you can't get credit elsewhere and will never get credit elsewhere without a company like Vanquis, Provident, or Cash Plus giving you a chance to show recent positive repayment history first.

And those that are serious about using it as nothing other than a stepping stone, myself and the vast majority of other Vanquis card holders here, repay in full and never pay interest.

Just remember - it's all relative. 69.9% APR takes the !!!! if you are looking to spread the cost and have a reasonable credit rating BUT it looks fantastic if you aren't looking to spread the cost, but instead rebuild a shattered credit rating that even scares off Capital One, Aqua, and Hutchinson 3G.

And remember that line between dictating and offering solutions? Take a few steps in the other direction ;)

  • izools you have just backed me up i am not saying vanquis does not help people who cant get credit in the past,my point was it is a credit building card as you stated without them you would of not had a chance of getting a couple of your cards..so my point is yes if you only spend £50 a month and you still have £1450 left of available credit it looks good on your report,so basically them people are building up there credit history with vanquis, while building up there credit history, thats what i call a credit building card...so yes i do understand why people go for the vanquis credit builder card..
