If it's the heat you're concerned about then you could get a lunchbox like a small cool bag. If you want something hot then buy a food flask. You'll soon pay for them with all the money you'll save by not nipping to the shops.

My two favourites are probably pasta salad for summer and HM soups with bread/crispbread for winter or both!!
  • Well I instantly thought of cup of soup...

    also pot noodles

but h/made - pasta salads, couscous salads, leftovers - if ok cold
as we approach winter no fridge will be fine - you could also buy a food flask to keep soup/stews hot before lunchtime
Love reading the oldstyle board...always something to learn!
  • I'd go with a small cool bag and a food flask, and make your own hot or cold lunches.

No idea if this is feasible, but many years ago at work, they moved us to another part of the building, spent so much, that they left our staff room poorly equipped....and the old stuff had been thrown out! We chipped together for either a fridge or a microwave, cannot remember which one now, the other was donated by a member of staff who was doing up her kitchen. Certainly there were quite a few of us, as we were shift workers, so it wasn't expensive.

Small cool bag with ice packs and a food flask. One of my daughters used a cool bag with ice packs for years.....she would take cooked chicken, salad, bread, sandwiches, fruit, yoghurts, tuna, cooked meat, pasta salads, rice based dishes - like chicken and vegetable rice....the permutations are pretty endless.

The flask was used for stews and soups, chilli, curry, bolognese with pasta shapes mixed in, etc, you need to make sure the food is piping hot before you put it in the flask and that the flask has been heated with hot water before you put anything in it......

Her packed lunches looked (and tasted) so good that I often used to ask her to do one for me too.....
  • By the way, for breakfasts, you can make your own porridge pots by mixing plain rolled oats, a bit of milk powder and whatever flavouring you prefer in a tub and taking it with you. Add hot water and voila - more savings!

I've got into the habit of cooking a protein/pasta based meal of an evening - chicken or beef, cooked with onions, courgettes, whatever really, then tossed through a couple of handfuls of cooked pasta and dribbled with a bit of chilli oil. Works hot or cold, so I make enough for two portions and bring one to work with me the next day.
Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

  • I have decided to cut out sugar from my diet as a New Years resolution. The majority of my lunches revolve around sandwiches which I will want to avoid.

I have a soup maker and will therefore make plenty of soups and salads for the summer, but could do with some variety.

Weekends are not an issue but work is limited to a kettle and microwave.

    All ideas will be appreciated.

    TIA

    I have things like Rice Salads sometimes, assorted frozen veg; egg;
onions; tomatoes. Take it in an empty Vitalite tub.

    Just bread or gluten?

If just bread, you could have couscous or pasta salads, Cornish pasties, sausage rolls, quiche, any kind of pie. Cold meats with salad. Dips or pate with crudit!s and rice cakes. Sushi. Omelette rolls.
  • Scrambled eggs done in the microwave. At school everyone is jealous when I have eggs scrambled with chopped chorizo, spinach and tomatoes. Yummy! You can have them scrambled with ham and serve with a salad.

Soups or veggie stews are nice. Leftovers from dinners if you have got a microwave?

Cook up some turkey mince with herbs and spices, divide into lunchboxes, add cooked rice and cooked veggies for nice lunches that can be heated in the microwave.

Jacket potatoes? You can cook them in your own oven and then reheat at work? Can add tuna mayo or cheese, or whatever topping you fancy.

    Savoury flapjacks are nice.

These are all lunches that I have at school :D

  • Just bread, but as I want to lose some weight would probably be wise avoiding pastry, thank you the ideas. The omelette rolls sound intriguing xx
