    I regularly make soups at home such as cauliflower cheese, leek and potato and pea and ham but travelling into London each day (hr journey) and being on the tube makes me a little wary as I've had it spill out in my bag before! Not a pretty sight!!

    What do you store it in? I'd try a thermos flask. Even if you don't take it in hot, they seal up really well.

  • I bought some oatcakes the other day for a change. They were 69p in MrS and there are 4 packs of 6 in the box. I had slices of banana on top for my break today and they really filled a gap nicely!

    I don't know if anyone else here has tried a food flask but I love mine. I take homemade chilli, soup, bolognaise etc to work and it stays hot for 7 hours with no spill risk. They're wide enough to eat straight from the flask so no need to find a bowl/ plate in the workplace.

    Mine cost £7 but seen them cheaper since I bought it 2 months ago. It's really paid for itself :)

    If you freeze your soup in portions it won't spill.

    Sorry to bump this thread but saw an article about how people spend £7.81 a day on lunch at work, today and thought it would make interesting reading for us on here! Her reasons for it being acceptable seem completely mad to me.

    Hi all, apologies if this isn't in the right place. I'm looking for lunch/breakfast ideas for my husband when he is at work. He works twelve hour days as a window fitter so needs lots of fuel as its obviously a very manual job. Currently I make him a couple of sandwiches but he normally eats those during the morning as he doesn't have breakfast at home (he'd prefer the extra time in bed). I'm wondering what I could make him on a budget to eat around lunch time. He normally buys a meal deal from the supermarket or fish and chips so it would probably save us about £4/5 a day. He had no facilities to heat anything up.

  • You could provide him with a flask of either hot water or milk for some porridge.....plus he could have some chopped fruit to help bulk it up. The hot water could also be used for cup a soups. Cook a bulk of pasta or cous cous and add meat and salad to make a change from sandwiches? Hope this helps.:D

    I have recently completed a self-build, and when we were at the stage where we had to leave home early and work hard we did the following:
    Porridge (using wide mouth vacuum flask) but I know some are happy with "instant"
    chunky home made soup (ditto) with home made croutons
    pasta meals (ditto - get a good few wide mouth flasks!)
    fruit salad - can be picked at more easily than munching on fruit - we added things like raisins & prunes
    fruit & nut mix (verging on expensive)
    flapjack - I made batches at the weekend, with added raisins etc.
    because I like it: chopped celery & apple with chopped cheese + some oat crackers
