    Hi staceydaisy,

There's an existing thread with lots of lunch ideas that should help so I've added your thread to it to keep the suggestions together.

Sorry, can't stand sushi. I just don't 'get it'! As for veggie sushi (raw vegetables made to look like raw fish)- what's that all about!!??

    Thanks for the thought though!

Sushi doesn't mean raw fish - raw fish w/ rice is just one type of sushi and vegetables/tofu are different variations -

"In Japanese cuisine, sushi is vinegared rice, usually topped with other ingredients, including fish dishes." (wikipedia)

    Hi All
    ......he takes

chese ham n onion toastie do you grate the cheese & chop the onion really small? I think I've read somewhere about stirring really fine diced onion into cheese spead too, to make it go further.
soup/chilli/leftovers with 2 bread home made bread?
yoghurt home made yog too :D there's a thread on here somewhere about making it in an ordinary thermos flask...I keep meaning to have a go
2 choc biscuits home made flapjack/twinks/ other biscuity or cake types
    2 crisps
    apple
    banana
    oranges
scotch egg plain hard boiled egg & a couple of cooked chipolata sausages

this is shared between break n lunch

this is costing me 20 pounds a week on my shopping
Hope you don't mind my thoughts..I've an outdoor worker who leaves the house at 7:15 & isn't back home till 6pm too. I'm trying to convert them all to the lovely home made soups that I see recipes for, especially for deepest winter.
Another one I pack up is a tin of baked beans to have on toast & sometimes add little bits of cooked sausage.

    Hiya :)

Am hoping this is right place to post this, have been lurking on boards for a while but only plucked up courage to join today :o

I have a new job starting next week that I am very excited about :D I want to make sure I spend as little as possible during my time at work though so in the limited time I have left this week, I want to get organised, sort out what I need to buy for lunches etc etc. I am planning to take packed lunches and home made snacks but knowing me will get bored of sandwiches very quickly :rotfl:

Anyone have any ideas about what other 'summery' lunches I could make?

Any ideas welcome :) Would like to keep costs down as much as possible so that I can start clearing off some of my debt as of the end of this month :)

    Many thanks,

    xx

I know this is probably asked over and over.

Staff canteen is getting far too expensive (though breakfast has been cut drastically - from fry up to toast) lunch is far too expensive - averaging £3.50 a day ().

I know people mention about bulk meals and freezing - this isnt really an option (old people in the house keep filling the freezer with food:confused:.

Also, I get really narked off with sandwiches pretty quickly.

Probably after quick simple that I can make night before, that can eat cold or heat up (dependant on what it is) and as long as its a bit cheaper than work.....

And as need to lose three stone - low fat (not really asking much am I :o

I've had similar probs with our canteen.......and also the quality of the food  So now I take salads and a tiney tub of dressing. They stay really fresh in a cool bag with an ice block in. Another thing for you could be homemade soups, make at the weekend and gradually take portions in, or get an extra smaller helping made at tea time and take in the next day for lunch. My son takes homemade wraps to college as they were adding up to a fair whack after a while, they'd be easy to make the night before, just take any sauces seperately or bits of lettuce etc, and add them at work. You could do crudites and houmous to dip in, raw carrot can be quite filling!!
