It's sad they didn't use their discretion and see that your poor son was in dire straits and needed it. You weren't just trying to take advantage.
In Gap we always used to let children use the staff toilets. They were clean and the mall public toilets were two escalators down. (Aren't they always in the most inconvenient places?! Anyone could think Mall Management didn't want the public using their toilets......)
The staff toilets were clean and spacious, the only problem was if we had all the spare mannequins stuck in the corner. They used to freak the staff out never mind the children!
However if people (adults) asked if we had customer toilets we usually said no and directed them downstairs. But discretion again - if they looked like they were going to pee their pants then they could gladly use ours!
Sorry OP - a silly situation that could have been prevented. You did nothing wrong!0 -
I can understand the rules companies make with us being in a compensation culture but when a child needs to go they need to go.
There is a Gap where I live that actually has a toilet in it and it is in the childrens department, very good planning when they built the store!!!
I think round my city centre, public toilets, emmmm can't think of any that are still open. You would have to stop, think which shops have a cafe and go to them.0 -

That's the golden rule. Since my brother put me onto it, it has saved my life many times.0 -
I do see Quackers point but it is a shame that fear of being sued is now put before customer service. As for 2 members of staff watching you struggle down the stairs with a pram.... Ridiculous! Lets just hope they were both shortsighted and just didn't notice you... That said, I have worked in 2 shops and I'd say about 9 out of 10 members of staff at both of those stores would've done the exact same thing. From a customers point of view, and a former shop assistants, good customer service is hard to come by these days.
It is a shame that when I meet a helpful and friendly shop assistant I am incredibly surprised and awed as its such a rare thing.0 -

God - too true!
I love it when I meet someone who enjoys their job. It puts a spring in my step when I'm served by someone pleasant.0 -
Like someone else said put nappies on the kid or plan your day better. Build in toilet breaks or something. Why do a lot of people with kids think the world revolves around their offspring? Grrrrr one of my biggest pet hates.0

I am, to get a point across. This week it's been idiots bringing their four year olds to the cinema, getting up for hte toilet every five minutes then the kids crying when it's loud. Pushchairs banging into me in the street then a filthy look because apparently it's my fault the slattern in charge can't use a pushchair and cellphone at the same time.
When a kid runs up to me with sticky hands and put cr*p all over me or breaks something then it annoys me.
Not kids fault, simply parents. There are ruls and laws if you have an animal. Seems to me anyone can breed.
Gah! Now I'm wound up again!0
