DD has been sick in bed so it's now changed and in the wash. Think i'm gonna head to bed as i can't see the sparky arriving now.
    Night all.
Sometimes it seems that the going is just too rough.
And things go wrong no matter what I do.
Now and then it seems that life is just too much.
But you've got the love I need to see me through.

see if you can find out if she is reading as part of a guided reading group - that's when most of my class are heard, though we do try to make time to hear our'poorer' readers from time to time individually and the TA who has an hour for book changing hears them, too.... Having said that I have no (YES NO) TA time other than when I'm in the ICT suite when I need her to support 26 7 yos doing ICT - and I teach them lots of extra skills lioke spreadsheet - they have used excel for pie charts and formatting skills, resizing picturesin word and, today Drop caps (ooo they said)

I wish - half the time I end up doing it in my lunchtime!

Grateful - I'm not allowed to listen to individual readers!!! Most of the time it will be guided reading sessions and I don't write that in their reading diaries.

eta sarahshattered DH says its a very strange thing to do, but hard to stop them. You are likely entitled to ask for a copy of all the recordings, if you want to make a big fuss.

I think it's bloomin off too grateful. I was so sure it was illegal :(

    minutes and recording?

seems odd - anything on the ACAS website?

Hiya Valli :hello: Hope you're well love. :) I can't see anything obvious on the acas site, I've looked around it, but not found anything relevant.

    - if an admin person requires video tapes to take minutes, they are not up to the job! An ordinary audio tape recorder would be far more acceptable. Though the question does arise, what is the real reason behind the video taping?

Hiya Soappie :D That made me snort with laughter... that's exactly what I said to my big boss... to which she replied... "that's a bit harsh!" *hrumph* I disagreed!!
And.. why videoing?? I agree, It's very odd, and doesn't make for a very trusting environment. :(

You could quote sections 8 & 10 of the Human Rights Act - rights to privacy & freedom of expression? Whilst as far as I know its not illegal - it is usual common practice, not too mention polite, to get the acceptance of all participants before proceeding.

Makes my own problems seem very insignificant. DS1 has misbehaved at school so they won't letting him go on a trip which he MUST GO ON to get his BTEC. I can't believe they will let him throw 2 years of work away by punishing him like this.

I can't, either. It's in the school's interest to get each child as many qualifications as possible, so I'd be surprised if they followed through with this. At our place, that would really be the last resort. Could you (or another adult) offer to go with him?

Sounds like a need for tea and sympathy all round?

From memory sarahshattered recent case law says that a tribunal will accept a tape recording even if it was made without consent - logically if there were legal issues the employers barrister would have brought it up in the appeal. Unfortunately I can't remember where I read about it. Good to see you posting though. I would never record something without permission.

Pen Pen - poor you, hope you heal quickly.

Grateful - my DS1 is year 2, his teacher or a TA writes in his reading record at least once a week. They send a polite message home if we haven't written in it at least 4 times.

Yet again I have emptied the bins, cooked dinner, s&S'd the kitchen, put the WM, DW and TD on and not a lot else. Never mind, tomorrow is another (busy) day :rotfl:. Just off to do packed lunches and uniforms before I S&S the bathroom while my bath is running.

Three days left till we have visitors and the house remains a tip. Crisis cleaning here I come .

Also ask what happens to the tapes afterwards - where are they stored, how are they secured, who gets to look at them. If they are used for anything other than their stated purpose you need to sign a model release form for your image to be used. The use of cameras also makes people feel very self-conscious so is likely to have a negative impact on the meeting generally. I will try to remember to look out some more stuff... I have a fortnightly meeting on Privacy legislation but I'm more up to date on US law at the moment. But privacy is probably what you want to look at rather than specific employment law.
