PAYG Mobile internet dongle?

Just picked one up having ordered from TD - the 180 day lack of use is quoted in the accompanying documentation, no mention of 270 days. It's £15 top up only and there's certainly no mention of credit expiring.Well spotted, that beats Ebay by £10 then... just make sure that Tesco has not mis-described the item - they appear to have old Dec 09 stock online and not the current Voda offering... a mis-catalogue?
That 270 days is a new one - previously, only seen 180 days (if not used) expiry quoted.0 -
3 seem to have various internet tarrifs, is it really as simple as just taking the cheap £5 deal and abusing it? Have you noticed any restriction?..I expect to move a few gb of data over the month just browsing forums etc...... I have PC Suite installed; then I just click 'connect to internet'Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -

It's not unlimited - with 3 you get around 2Gb for the £5 add-on.
With T-Mobile it's more generous - after you've reached a certain limit they restrict you to downloading stuff outwith 4 til midnight for the rest of the month, but you can still browse.
I really don't understand why anyone uses dongles when tethering is easier and a lot cheaper.I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.

With a dongle, you plug it straight into your computer and the software auto installs itself in 2 or 3 easy Next > Next steps and you are online.
I also previously set up tethering - it involves using the phone manufacturer's unreliable software and/or an understanding of apn settings etc. Plus an almost secret 'initialization code' may be needed. It works (if I remembered to have the correct lead handy) but I prefer a dongle any time.0 -
Fine, if you want to waste money, but tethering is easy - nothing esoteric about it.:)I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.

Also I wonder what percentage of mobile owners have a sensible data plan for tethering - and how many have an appropriate 3g phone with the ability? Dongles are aimed at non-technical users and great for the purpose.0

Just back from my weekend away and couldn't get the Vodafone 1GB in any of the places I tried, including Tesco.
However I had seen it on Tesco Direct at £24.99 before I left so I ordered it in store and it should be delivered to a store about 17 miles away (my nearest) on Wednesday.
The catalgue only has the 3GB one, but I told the girl I'd seen it online and she was able to order it for me.
I have only used the 3 PAYG before and managed to surf for about 40 hours before the 30 day expiry. This one should work out even better as I only want it for the odd weekend away and for using in airports while we are between flights.
The 'old' vodaphone dongle is availalbe from the link for £22.99 with free p&p and a potential £3 through Quidco.
