Hey thanks for your time :) I'll have a go at this at the weekend & let you know how it goes.

If your use is very variable - some days a fair bit, some days none, then I reckon the best deal is the Vodafone Top Up and Go

Now at £25 for dongle with £15 credit built in. Key thing is NO EXPIRY of the 1GB for £15 allowance. I use one for occasional travel & when the home internet is down, £15 lasts ages. Also a doddle to install/use.

[ see corrected info below - this deal was too good to last it appears, glad I still have the old one ]

I've found a guy on ebay selling the old dongles with no time limit, a tad pricey at £35 (inc £15 credit).

As said this is for 1gb not the 3gb of the new ones but the credit doesn't run out & for me it may work out cheaper in the long run!

I'll try the phone malarky first :)

How do you know you are getting the old non-expiring one? Is the difference that the old one is 1GB and the new one 3GB?

I haven't bought one yet but I asked the seller & yes they are the older 1gb with no expiry.

just ensure you use it once every 45 days or so as it can deactivate thru non-use.

I was going to try and get one this weekend as we are going away. However I checked the coverage for where we are going and where we live and it's pants so it looks like it's not worth bothering. I'll have to stick with the 3 dongle I have.

Once you use the inital 1GB, does the top up expire within 30 days?

No, there is no expiry for future top-ups.

Thanks for that. I may buy one if I find one this weekend in the hope that coverage improves in the future.
