Tethering via mobile phone is so much cheaper for mobile broadband.

    Further explanation ?

Not familar with that term of provider / connection method.

What is it dialling up using your mobile phone GSM modem? Yes, I am too lazy to Google before you ask, but I'll probably end up doing it anyway :D

£5 a month for an internet add-on on T-Mobile or 3. With 3 it works out at around 2GB, with T-Mobile it's more generous.

A lot cheaper than buying a dongle and buying data. I could connect using my phone, but just take the sim out and put it in my netbook.

I've never paid more than £5 in any one month - have been doing this for 2 years - and download movies, music etc. as well as normal web browsing.

i agree with the above post, it is very easy to do depending on how you connect your phone, ive wasted £20 worth of credit when i had only just bought a months worth of internet.

i have a 3 dongle and phone so i took the sim out of my phone and it used the internet like a charm, its kind of hit and miss at times. but you kind of always have to be on the look out of your credit, else you could just waste all the money you have on there.

£10 modem and go thru QuidCo for £5 cash back.

you DO have to top up with £15 in the 1st 30 days

    but

for an equivalent of £20,, you get the dongle and a months service.

The free wi-fi might be good for you as well, depending where u are delivering.

There is a usage pattern where a non-expiring pay as you go deal is ideal. As a backup to an unreliable home connection, for occasional weekends away etc. The only one ever offered in the UK was Vodafone "Topup and Go" until about Dec 2009. For those who want to save money (the point of this forum) then the options are a) Get an remaindered old tariff Voda dongle e.g. from Tesco (mentioned above) or obtain a old tariff SIM from Ebay and put it in an unlocked dongle - you can get these SIMs with 1GB data for around £7 all in - mine arrived today.

I also agree that 'tethering' is OK for the tech savvy but most networks 'officially' don't allow it.

Thanks for all the replies :)

I'm not sure what to do as I could go for days without having the need/time to use up any allowance &, while £10-£15 a month isn't a great deal of money, it's a waste if there's 1.5 gb left with only a week to go before it expires.

I've managed for now just watching films but it would be nice to have a bit of MSE & stuff for a change ;)
