Can't connect to Tesco website

I have been shopping for over a year using the Tesco website with no problems. However,I bought a new computer with Windows 7 64 bit 3 weeks ago and can no longer connect to their website. I keep getting "web page cannot be displayed" error message. I have no problems with any other site. I have been on the phone to Tesco and BT (BT Home Hub) numerous times and neither of them can help and they each blame the other.I can connect to a certain degree if I go via a proxy site, but eventually even that crashes. I need to be able to get on their site to order for my disabled Mother and would be grateful for any advice anyone can give me.
Many thanks.

What browser are you using, and have you tried using a different one for this site?

I'm using Internet Explorer 8,but have also tried Mozilla Firefox and Opera. The same thing happens on all 3 of them.

What happens when you go through a proxy https://www.freeproxyserver.net ?

Which security applications are you running?

What about the URLs https://www.tescocompare.com and https://www.tescofinance.com ?

If I try the proxy site the Tesco home page opens up okay, but when I try to log in or click on Grocerey then the next page times out.
The other 2 Tesco sites are fine.
I only have AVG installed on my computer at the moment along with Windows 7 firewall, and all security settings on Internet Explorer are set to default (but I have tried lowering these settings, but with no joy).

You aught to NEVER enter your details via a web proxy. That's very very silly. You should change those particular details ASAP.

You need to dump IE8 until you sort the problem. Get https://www.firefox.com and see how it works. Use it without that proxy link.

Also try reinstalling IE8 and make sure you set everything to default before doing so and also make sure you haven't blocked Tesco.com in Windows 7 firewall (which is very very easy to do).

    IE8 http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Internet-Explorer-8-Download-95339.html

It is also worth noting there are 2 versions of IE8 on your machine (32bit and 64bit). Make sure you have tried both and also make sure you know which is which. Stick with 32bit (AKA x86) as that's better supported. The problem may be Tesco.com (and 1000s of other sites that you've not tried) due to a conflict (security perhaps) with x64 IE8 with something on your system. I have checked x64 IE8 and it works fine with Tesco.com with me so maybe check to see if you installed toolbars and remove those.

There's something interfering with your connection and assuming you've not blocked Tesco.com manually at your router or Windows 7 firewall then it's something connected to your browser. So try Firefox first. Don't import IE8's settings, just test it with Tesco.com.

The OP has said that they tried Firefox, IE isn't always the source of a problem....

Agree with the other thing though, don't enter ay usernames/passwords/bank details (etc) into a proxy website - though you can use a proxy to test to see if a website is working or not (but not to buy/login)

I have tried Firefox already, and tried both versions of IE8 (32bit and 64 bit). I have not entered any details on the proxy site, just went through it to see if it would connect.
IE8 is on it's default settings as I've only really installed Windows 7 and drivers since getting new computer, (plus I have gone into the settings to double check).
The Tesco site is not being blocked by Windows 7 firewall either.

Could it be, that Tesco site uses some version of Java or Flash you don't have installed on the new system? Or have other people had communication problems with Tesco site and Windows 7.

Just throwing the first few things that come to my mind here. :)

I do have the latest versions of Java and Flash plug ins running. I have again spoken to the Tesco technical support and they have no idea, they are blaming my BT Phone Hub,but of course BT say it's nothing to do with them, and to be fair I've been using the hub for the last year or so on my old PC with XP with no problems at all.
With regards to an earlier comment, maybe there are some other sites that I could have a problem with, but all I can say is that so far,out of the numerous websites I have been to the Tesco site is the only one causing a problem.

I know it sounds really daft, but just check the time and date settings on your pc to check they are correct. Make sure you have the correct time zone too.
